Julie Zhu
Julie Zhu is a New Zealand documentary filmmaker, podcaster and photographer. She specialises in stories from marginalised communities. She has created both scripted and documentary content for Whakaata Māori, The Spinoff, TVNZ+, and Radio New Zealand. Biography Zhu was born in Xi'an, China and grew up in Auckland. Zhu co-directs and co-hosts the podcast and docu-series '' Conversations With My Immigrant Parents'' alongside Saraid de Silva for Radio New Zealand. She directed the observational documentary series ''Takeout Kids'' for The Spinoff; she won Best Director – NZ Factual at NZ Web Fest for her work on this series. Show Me Shorts is an international short film festival held in Auckland and other venues across New Zealand. It screens a selection of short films from New Zealand and around the world in cinemas nationwide each spring. Each year approximately 80 top short films are selected and contend for awards. The festival awards are then presented to the top filmmakers at the opening night and awards ceremony in Auckland. Show Me Shorts is New Zealand's first Academy Awards-accredited festival, with the Best Film and Best International Film award winners becoming eligible for nomination for the Oscars. The Web Fest, are a set of awards given annually for excellence of internet achievements in the region of Former Yugoslavia. The Web Fest statuette is one of two types of Web Fest Awards. Saraid De Silva
Saraid de Silva is a Sri Lankan writer, podcaster and creative from New Zealand. Her work pulls from her diasporic experiences as a third culture child as well as a queer woman of colour. Life & career de Silva was born in Hamilton in 1991, living in various places in New Zealand, and now based in Auckland.
