The Nova Scotia House of Assembly (; ), or Legislative Assembly, is the deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Nova Scotia, and together with the lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia makes up the Nova Scotia Legislature. The assembly is the oldest in Canada, having first sat in 1758; in 1848, it was the site of the first responsible government in the British Empire. Bills passed by the House of Assembly are given royal assent by the lieutenant governor in the name of the King of Canada. Keith Irving
Keith Irving (born 1958) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in the 2013 provincial election. A member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, he represents the electoral district of Kings South. Irving has previously served on Wolfville Town Council and Iqaluit Town Council. Irving is a former architect by trade. In 2017, Irving was re-elected in Kings South. On February 23, 2021, Irving was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Chair of Treasury and Policy Board. Irving was re-elected in the 2021 election, however the Rankin Liberals lost government becoming the Official Opposition. 2024 Nova Scotia General Election
The 2024 Nova Scotia general election was held on November 26, 2024, to elect members to the 65th General Assembly of Nova Scotia. The election was held under first-past-the-post voting. The incumbent Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia (PC) government, led by Premier Tim Houston since 2021, called a snap election and won a second consecutive majority government. It is the first time since 1984 Nova Scotia general election, 1984 that the PCs won over half of the popular vote, and a supermajority (i.e., greater than two-thirds) of seats in the General Assembly means that it can alter procedural rules without the collaboration of the other parties.
