Julie E. Czerneda
Julie E. Czerneda (born April 11, 1955) is a Canadian science fiction and fantasy author. She has written many novels, including four Aurora Award for Best Novel winners (''In the Company of Others'', ''A Turn of Light'', ''A Play of Shadow'', and ''The Gossamer Mage''), and a number of short stories; she has also edited several anthologies. Czerneda is a biologist by education, and has been active in writing and editing non-fiction. She has edited and authored a number of educational books about career guidance and the teaching of science. In 2022, Czerneda was inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association Hall of Fame (CSFFA). In The Company Of Others
''In the Company of Others'' is a standalone novel written by the Canadian author Julie Czerneda. It was first published by DAW Books in June 2001 and distributed by G. P. Putnam's Sons, Penguin Putnam. In 2002 it won the Aurora Award for Best Novel in English. The cover art of the first edition was created by Luis Royo and features the main character, Aaron Pardell, sliding along the cables outside of Thromberg station. Setting The story is set in a future where Earth has become crowded and Humanity is prompted to expand beyond Sol system. Teams of terraformers have been sent to prepare new planets, making them suitable for sustaining humans. Space stations have been built to accommodate the flood of emigration to the new worlds. Humanity was eager to set out to their new homes and potentially make first contact with sentient alien beings until the deadly Quill effect made habitation on the terraformed worlds impossible. Golden Duck Awards
The Golden Duck Awards for Excellence in Children's Science Fiction were given annually from 1992 to 2017. The awards were presented every year at either Worldcon or the North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC). In 2018 they were replaced by Notable Book Lists of the same names sponsored by the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA). The Golden Duck Awards were funded by Super-Con-Duck-Tivity, Inc., the sponsor of the U.S. midwest regional science fiction convention DucKon. Genevieve (; ; also called ''Genovefa'' and ''Genofeva''; 419/422 AD – 502/512 AD) was a consecrated virgin, and is one of the two patron saints of Paris in the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church. Her feast day is on 3 January. Recognized for her religious devotion at a young age, she met Germanus of Auxerre and Lupus of Troyes when she was a child and dedicated herself to a virginal life. Miracles and healings began to happen around her early on and she became known for changing the weather.
