Julian Steckel
Julian Steckel (born 1982) is a German cellist and academic teacher. Life Steckel was born in 1982 in Pirmasens as the son of piano teacher Vilja Steckel and violin teacher and conductor Helfried Steckel. He completed the Abitur at the old-language . At the age of five Steckel began studying cello to play with Ulrich Voss in Saarbrücken. Later he studied with Gustav Rivinius in Saarbrücken, Boris Pergamenschikow in Berlin, Heinrich Schiff in Vienna and Antje Weithaas in Berlin. After receiving prizes at the "Jugend musiziert" music competition, he was awarded a prize at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb of the Deutscher Musikrat in 2003. In 2010 he won the ARD International Music Competition. In 2012, Steckel received the Echo Klassik in the category ''Nachwuchskünstler (Cello)'' with his album ''Korngold, Bloch, Goldschmidt: Cello Concertos'', published by Cavi-Music. Pirmasens
Pirmasens (; (also ''Bermesens'' or ''Bärmasens'')) is an independent town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, near the border with France. It was famous for the manufacture of shoes. The surrounding rural district was called ''Landkreis Pirmasens'' from 1818 until 1997, when it was renamed to ''Südwestpfalz''. History Early years The first mention of "Pirminiseusna", a colony of Hornbach Abbey, dates from 860. The name derives from St. Pirminius, the founder of the monastery. The Rostock University of Music and Drama (short HMT, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock in German) is a College or university school of music, college of music in Rostock, Mecklenburg, Germany. It opened in 1994 and is situated in a former abbey called ''Katharinenkloster'' in the historical core of the city. The Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra (Stuttgarter Kammerorchester) is a German chamber orchestra based in Stuttgart. Its principal concert venue is the . History Karl Münchinger founded the orchestra in 1945, and served as its chief conductor until 1987. With Münchinger, the orchestra made its USA debut in March 1954 in New York City. Martin Sieghart was the orchestras second chief conductor from 1990 to 1995. From 1995 to 2006, Dennis Russell Davies was chief conductor, and his projects with the orchestra included recordings of Haydn symphonies. Subsequent chief conductors have included Michael Hofstetter (2006–2013) and Matthias Foremny (2013–2019).
