Julian Schmid (skier)
Julian Schmid (born 1 September 1999) is a German nordic combined skier. Career Early career Schmid, representing SC Oberstdorf and initially coached by Thomas Müller, debuted internationally at the 2014 OPA Nordic Ski Games in Gérardmer, finishing fourth in the Gundersen event. Struggling in subsequent Alpine Cup events, he gained momentum and earned silver in the 2016 OPA Games team competition. In 2017, he debuted in the Continental Cup and scored his first points in Steamboat Springs. Schmid won team silver at the 2018 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships, followed by gold and silver in 2019 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships. Move to the World Cup In 2019 Schmid joined Germany's senior World Cup team, earning consistent results, including a season-best 15th place in Lahti. Oberstdorf (Low Alemannic German, Low Alemannic: ''Oberschdorf'') is a Municipalities of Germany, municipality and skiing and hiking town in Germany, located in the Allgäu region of the Bavarian Alps. 2023–24 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup
The 2023/24 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup, organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS) was the 41st World Cup season in nordic combined for men and the 4th season for women. The men's competition started on 24 November 2023 in Ruka, Finland and concluded on 17 March 2024 in Trondheim, Norway. The women's competition started on 1 December 2023 in Lillehammer, Norway and concluded same as men's competitions. Johannes Lamparter from Austria (men's) and Gyda Westvold Hansen from Norway (women's) were the reigning champions from the previous season. The Austrian finished the season in third place, while the Norwegian finished second. Jarl Magnus Riiber and Ida Marie Hagen, both from Norway, became the new overall champions. Jarl Magnus Riiber (born 15 October 1997) is a Norwegian former nordic combined skier who won five times the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup and 11 gold medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Career Riiber attained his first World Cup podium during the 2014–15 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup, 2014–15 season on 16 January 2015 in Seefeld in Tirol, Seefeld in Austria. Planica () is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. The 2021/22 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup, organized by the International Ski Federation was the 39th Nordic Combined World Cup season for men, and the 2nd season for women. The men's competition started in Ruka, Finland, and the women's competition in Lillehammer, Norway. Both competitions concluded in Schonach, Germany. Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber and American Tara Geraghty-Moats are the defending overall champions from the 2020–21 season. The American will not defend her title due to the change of sport from Nordic combined to biathlon. As of this season, women's mass start and mixed competitions are making their debut. Manuel Faißt (born 11 January 1993) is a German nordic combined athlete. Career Germany's Manuel Faißt has relations to other people who are nordic combined athletes. In Faißt's case, his father has been a Nordic Combined athlete himself and worked as a coach at Faißt's home club of Baiersbronn. 4-year-old Manuel skied down the outrun of the 10-metre hill at Bergergrund and at age 5, he had already made his first jumps. Soon, Faißt's ambitious personality paid off, and he started collecting medals and trophies from competitions that he won, even in his younger years. Eric Frenzel (born 21 November 1988) is a German former nordic combined skier and current discipline coach for the German nordic combined team. Career One of the most successful nordic combined athletes of all time. He won the Olympic gold medals in the 10km individual normal hill at the 2014 Winter Olympics and 10km individual normal hill at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
