Julian Grill
Julian Fletcher Grill (born 15 May 1940) is an Australian former politician. Grill was a member of the Parliament of Western Australia between 1977 and 2001. Early life and education Grill was born in Sydney and was brought up in Broken Hill, Collie and Subiaco. He attended Perth Modern School and the University of Western Australia from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws. Legal career Grill was admitted to the Western Australian Bar of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1966. A partner of Henshaw, Wheeldon and Grill, Evans and Grill, and Grill Browne and Co, he specialised in mining and resources law. Parliamentary career Grill was elected as the Member for Yilgarn-Dundas in Western Australia's Lower House in 1977. Due to redistributions the seat changed a number of times, initially becoming Esperance-Dundas and eventually Eyre. The Supreme Court of Western Australia is the highest state court in the Australian State of Western Australia. Griffin Coal is a large coal mine near the town of Collie in Western Australia, producing about of coal annually. Collie Power Station
Collie Power Station is a power station in Collie, Western Australia. It is coal powered with one steam turbine that generates a total capacity of 300 megawatts of electricity. The coal is mined locally from the Collie Sub-basin and is transported to the power plant by overland conveyor. In June 2022, the Government of Western Australia announced that Synergy would close Collie Power Station by 2027. Built by the Clough Group, the station was commissioned in 1999 with a single 300 megawatts steam turbine. Power generated by the station supplies the south-west of Australia through the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) operated by Western Power. Dawesville Channel
Dawesville Channel (also known as Dawesville Cut) is an artificial channel between the Peel-Harvey Estuary and the Indian Ocean at Dawesville, about south of Perth in Western Australia. It is south of the regional city of Mandurah and north of Yalgorup National Park. The channel alleviated a serious environmental problem, by allowing seawater from the Indian Ocean to move in and out of the estuarine system using the daily tidal movements, preventing the build-up of algae. Before the construction of the canal, much of the estuarine system, which is approximately and about deep, had become eutrophic. Hillarys Boat Harbour is a marina and tourist precinct located in Hillarys, north of Perth, Western Australia, and on the Indian Ocean. The marina also contains two retail precincts, Sorrento Quay and Hillarys Boardwalk. History Hillarys Boat Harbour was the first such major marina in the north metropolitan region of Perth. Geoff Gallop
Geoffrey Ian Gallop (born 27 September 1951) is an Australian academic and former politician who served as the 27th premier of Western Australia from 2001 to 2006. He is currently a professor and director of the Graduate School of Government at the University of Sydney and former chairman of the Australian Republican Movement. Born in Geraldton, Western Australia, Gallop studied at the University of Western Australia, and later progressed to St John's College at the University of Oxford after winning a Rhodes Scholarship. 2001 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 10 February 2001 to elect all 57 members to the Legislative Assembly and all 34 members to the Legislative Council. The two-term Liberal– National coalition government, led by Premier Richard Court, was defeated by the Labor Party, led by Opposition Leader Dr Geoff Gallop, in a landslide. The Burke Ministry was the 29th Ministry of the Government of Western Australia, led by Labor Premier Brian Burke and deputy Mal Bryce.
