Julia Lester (soccer)
Julia Nicole Lester (born January 16, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Seattle Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Collegiate career A family youth and community sciences major, Lester played for the Florida Gators from 2016 to 2019. Club career After graduating from the University of Florida in August 2020, Lester signed for Cypriot club Apollon Ladies and played in the UEFA Women's Champions League. She was named to the league's Best XI in 2021 and captained the team. In March 2022, Lester followed Apollon Ladies' former manager Kim Björkegren and signed for Racing Louisville of the American NWSL. In January 2024, Lester was traded to fellow NWSL club Seattle Reign. She subsequently extended her contract with the Reign until 2025. Seattle Reign FC is an American professional soccer team based in Seattle, Washington, that competes in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Founded in 2012, it is one of eight inaugural members of the NWSL. Since June 2024, the Reign are owned by the private equity firm the Carlyle Group and Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC. The team has reached the NWSL Championship three times (2014, 2015, 2023), losing each time. In 2020, OL Groupe, the parent company of French clubs Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, became the team's majority owner and the team played as OL Reign from 2020 to 2023. The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is a women's professional Association football, soccer league and the highest level of the United States soccer league system#Women's leagues, United States soccer league system (alongside the USL Super League). The league comprises 14 teams (16 in 2026). It is owned by the teams and sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation. The NWSL is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. Lars Kim Björkegren (born 18 December 1981) is a Swedish football manager who was most recently manager of Racing Louisville FC in the U.S. National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). He was hired from Cyprus champions Apollon Ladies FC after the 2020–21 European season.
