Jubilee Line Extension
The Jubilee Line Extension (JLE) is the extension of the London Underground's Jubilee line from to through south and east London. An eastward extension of the line was first proposed in the 1970s. As part of the development of London Docklands, the line was extended to serve Canary Wharf and other areas of south and east London. Construction began in 1993, and it opened in stages from May to December 1999, at a cost of £3.5 billion. The 11 new stations on the line were designed to be " future-proof", with wide passageways, large quantities of escalators and lifts, and emergency exits. The stations were the first on the Underground to have platform edge doors, and were built to have step free access throughout. Each of the stations was designed by a different architect, and the overall design of the project was led by Roland Paoletti. Canada Water Bus Station
Canada Water bus station serves the Rotherhithe area of the London Borough of Southwark, London, England. The station is owned and maintained by Transport for London. The bus station was opened on 18 September 1999 at the same time as the Jubilee line extension to Stratford reached Canada Water and is accessible by escalator from Canada Water station below easily. It is very near to Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. There is one alighting stand and four boarding stands within the bus station. The glass-roofed bus station was designed by Eva Jiřičná. It is a hub for services in the Rotherhithe and Bermondsey areas as well as an interchange for the tube station. Van Heyningen And Haward Architects
van Heyningen and Haward is an architectural practice, founded in 1983 by Birkin Haward and Joanna van Heyningen, and now owned and managed by James McCosh and Meryl Townley. The London architects work primarily in education, and have also worked in the heritage, community and health sectors. In 2010 the practice produced a monograph detailing their work to date; ''van Heyningen and Haward – Buildings and Projects''. The book was published by Right Angle Publishing and edited by Ian Latham. As well as giving an overview of the projects undertaken by the practice from inception until publication, it also includes essays by Trevor Garnham and contributions by Ken Powell and Patrick Lynch. John McAslan
John Renwick McAslan (born 16 February 1954) is a British architect. Education and career Born in Glasgow, John McAslan was educated at Dunoon Grammar School, Dollar Academy and the University of Edinburgh. He trained in Boston, USA, with Cambridge Seven Associates before joining Richard Rogers and Partners in 1980. He founded John McAslan + Partners in 1993, and the practice has five studios worldwide: London, Belfast, Edinburgh, Sydney and New York City. Succession plans were announced in 2024, handing the ownership of the practice to 15 directors with McAslan staying on as Executive Director. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is an automated medium-capacity rail system, light metro system primarily serving the redeveloped London Docklands, Docklands area of London and providing a direct connection between London's two major financial districts, Canary Wharf and the City of London.
