Juan Piñera
Juan Piñera (born 1949 in Havana) is a Cuban musician who during his long career has covered a wide professional spectrum as performer, composer, professor and musical adviser. Studies Juan Piñera took his first piano lessons from his sister Ninfa María Piñera. After some time he continued his piano studies with Cuban professor César Pérez Sentenat and with Silvio Rodríguez Cárdenas at Conservatorio Alejandro García Caturla in Marianao, Havana. At the same time, he studied with Argentinean harpsichordist Lidia Guerberof. In 1968 Piñera followed up with his piano studies at the Escuela Nacional de Artes, where he received instruction from Silvio Rodríguez Cárdenas, Ninowska Fernández-Britto and Ana Martínez Estrada. José Ardévol
José Ardévol (13 March 1911, in Barcelona – 7 January 1981, in Havana) was a Cuban composer and conductor of Spanish derivation. As a child, Ardévol studied under his father, Fernando, who was a musician and conductor. He emigrated to Cuba in 1930, and from 1934 to 1952 was the director of the Orquestra de cámara de la Habana. He was a professor in Cuba from 1936 to 1951, teaching in universities in Havana and Oriente. In 1942 he founded a movement called ''Grupo de renovación musical'', which included several of his students devoted to his aesthetic ideals. He conducted the orchestra of the government's Ministry of Education beginning in 1959. He continued teaching, working as a professor of composition at Havana Conservatory from 1965 and at the National School of Music from 1968. Instituto Superior De Arte
The University of Arts of Cuba / Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) was established on 1 September 1976, by the Cuban government as a school for the arts. Its original structure had three schools: Music, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts. History The ISA has four schools, the previous three and one for Arts and Audiovisual Communication Media. There are also four teaching schools in the provinces, one in Camagüey, two in Holguín and one in Santiago de Cuba. Margot Rojas Mendoza
Margot Rojas Mendoza (24 March 1903 – 1 November 1996) was a Cuban pianist and teacher of Cuban-Mexican origin. She performed as a concert pianist in New York, Mexico and Cuba for several years before turning to teaching. Several of her pupils became distinguished musicians. Early years Margot Rojas was born in Veracruz, Mexico on 24 March 1903. Her mother was Cuban and her father Mexican. She started her musical studies at the age of five under her aunt, Consuelo Mendoza. In 1912 she moved with her family to Havana, where she continued her studies at the Hubert de Blanck Conservatory. She was taught theory by José Molina Torres and Rafaela Serrano, and was taught piano by Consuelo Quesada and Hubert de Blanck. The Cuban National Ballet () is a classical ballet company based at Great Theatre of Havana in Havana, Cuba, founded by the Cuban prima ballerina assoluta, Alicia Alonso in 1948. The official school of the company is the Cuban National Ballet School. History The company was founded by Alicia Alonso, her husband Fernando Alonso (dancer), Fernando, and Fernando's brother Alberto on October 28, 1948 as ''Ballet Alicia Alonso''. Two years later in 1950, the ''Alicia Alonso Academy of Ballet'' school was established to promote the talents of young Cuban dancers. The National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba, UNEAC) is a social, cultural and professional organization of writers, musicians, actors, painters, sculptors, and artist of different genres. It was founded on August 22, 1961, by the Cuban poet, Nicolas Guillen. Initially their objective was uniting the intellectuals within the young Cuban Revolution to maintain a genuine Cuban culture. The group issued ''La Gaceta de Cuba'' beginning in 1962. Cuban violinist and professor Evelio Tieles was President of the Music Section from 1977 to 1984. Manuel Vázquez Portal was expelled from UNEAC because of his dissident views.
