Juan Gisbert Sr.
Juan Gisbert Sr. (born 5 April 1942) is a retired Spanish professional tennis player from the 1960s and 1970s. He was ranked world No. 14 in 1967. He was active from 1956 to 1976 and won 14 career singles titles. He won one ATP Tour, ATP singles title (plus several others) and reached the finals at the Australian Open, Australian Championships in 1968 and Cincinnati Masters, Cincinnati in 1971. In June 1965 he won the Barcelona Open (tennis), Conde de Godo Championships (currently Barcelona Open (tennis), Barcelona Open) in Barcelona on clay at the Réal Tennis Club defeating Manuel Santana, Rafael Osuna, and Martin Mulligan in best-of -five set matches. Gisbert won the 1971 ATP Bavarian International Tennis Championships at Munich on clay defeating Mulligan, Christian Kuhnke, and Péter Szőke in the final. The 1967 Mediterranean Games, officially known as the V Mediterranean Games, and commonly known as Tunis 1967, were the 5th Mediterranean Games. Bill Bowrey
William Bowrey (born 25 December 1943) is a former Australian tennis player. He was ranked world No. 8 in 1967. Christian Kuhnke (born 14 April 1939) is a former German tennis player. Kuhnke was part of the West Germany Davis Cup team who reached the Challenge Round in the 1970 Davis Cup. Kuhnke reached the quarter finals of the Australian Championships in 1961. Kuhnke was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 1963, losing in straight sets to Manuel Santana. The following year at Wimbledon, Kuhnke beat Santana (who had recently won the French Championships). Bavarian International Tennis Championships
The Bavarian International Tennis Championships (, known since 1990 by its sponsored name BMW Open) is a men's tennis tournament held at the MTTC Iphitos in Munich, Germany. The tournament is played on outdoor clay courts as part of the ATP Tour calendar. In 2025, it was upgraded to an ATP 500 level event. Founded in 1899 as a combined men's and women's event, it is also known as the ''Bavarian Open.'' History In 1899, the tournament's first edition was held by the tennis club ''Münchner Tennis- und Turnierclub (MTTC) Iphitos'', which was the first tennis club in Munich having been formed in 1892 by students. The club only had grass courts, and the first edition was therefore played on grass. Martin "Marty" Mulligan (born 18 October 1940) is a former tennis player from Australia. He is best known for reaching the men's singles final at Wimbledon in 1962, where he was defeated by fellow Australian Rod Laver. Personal life Mulligan was born in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville. His maternal grandparents were Italian, from Orsago, Treviso, Veneto. They moved to Australia in 1900. Rafael Osuna Herrera (15 September 1938 – 4 June 1969), nicknamed "El Pelón" (The Bald), was a former world No. 1 tennis player, and an Olympian. He was born in Mexico City, and is best remembered for his singles victory at the U.S. Open Championships in 1963, winning the 1960 and 1963 Wimbledon Doubles championships, the 1962 U.S. Open Championships doubles, and for leading Mexico to its only Davis Cup Final round appearance in 1962. He is the only Mexican to date to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, in 1979.
