JuJu Mucciaccio
Anthony Paul "JuJu" Mucciaccio Jr. (January 10, 1938 – January 1, 2025) was an American parks and recreation director in Dedham, Massachusetts. He was described by Town Clerk Paul Munchbach as "a Dedham icon" and someone who "dedicated his whole life to the town." Early life and education Mucciaccio was born on January 10, 1938, to Anthony, a stone mason, and Rose Mucciaccio on East Street in Dedham, Massachusetts. He had four younger brothers: Robert, William, Thomas, and Gerald Mucciaccio. He got his nickname, JuJu, from his childhood attempts to pronounce the "choo choo" sounds of the nearby trains going to Dedham station. He graduated from Dedham High School and later attended Bentley College. He was fat during high school and lost nearly 100 pounds his senior year. Moseley's On The Charles
Moseley's on the Charles, located on the banks of the Charles River in Dedham, Massachusetts, was the oldest continuous-running ballroom in the country. Founded in 1905 by Elisha Moseley, it originally functioned as a summer canoe house in addition to the ballroom. Brookdale Cemetery
Brookdale Cemetery is an historic cemetery in Dedham, Massachusetts, United States. More than 28,000 people are buried there. Mother Brook runs behind it. History For nearly 250 years after it was established, Old Village Cemetery was the only cemetery in Dedham. As immigrant workers moved to Dedham to take jobs in the mills along Mother Brook, it became clear that another cemetery would be needed. Seeing a need for greater space, the Annual Town Meeting of 1876 established a committee to look into establishing a new cemetery. The committee, composed of the selectmen and Eratus Worthington, Eliphalet Stone (Massachusetts), Eliphalet Stone, Royal O. Storrs, Winslow Warren, Edwin Whiting, and Alfred Hewins, was charged with determining how large the cemetery should be, locating land for it, and all other matters. Flag Day Parade
The Flag Day Parade is an annual parade in Dedham, Massachusetts that celebrates Flag Day. The parade began in 1967 and quickly became one of Dedham's most beloved traditions. The parade has occasionally rejected controversial floats. In 1975, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously refused to allow an anti-busing float during the nearby Boston desegregation busing crisis. In 1971, after Arthur "Mr. Wake Up America" Stivaletta claimed to be a co-sponsor of the parade, Recreation Director James E. Dunderdale publicly clarified that the Parks and Recreation Department was the only sponsor. After Proposition 2½ led to the elimination of the Recreation Director position in 1980, Anthony "JuJu" Muccaccio took over the position for a year ''pro bono.'' Dedham Station
Dedham station (formerly Dedham Center) was a train station located in central Dedham, Massachusetts, at the terminus of the Dedham Branch. History The original Dedham station stood near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and High Streets. It opened in February 1835 with the rest of the Dedham Branch. The depot bell was mounted on a tall post at the northeast corner on a projecting gooseneck arm. It was rung 10 minutes before a train was to leave, then again five minutes before, and for a final time at the train's departure. It burned down in 1849, leaving only the walls standing, and it was patched up with boards for temporary use until a new station could be constructed to the south. A new stone station was built in 1881–1882. It opened in August 1882. The station had a long colonnade of arches facing Eastern Avenue and a bell tower. Joseph "Shad" Araby (May 13, 1924 – August 17, 2006) was an American veteran, custodian, and supporter of Dedham youth, particularly Dedham High School athletics. Personal life Araby was born in Dedham, Massachusetts. As a student at Dedham High School, Araby earned the nickname "Shad" from humming the Louis Armstrong song Shadrack (Robert MacGimsey song), Shadrack. He was the water boy for the football team and served on the Boosters Club. After graduating from Dedham High School in 1942, Araby joined the United States Navy and served in World War II. He had a son, Frank, two grandchildren, a brother, James, and two sisters, Edith and Frances. He was a member of the Italian American Citizens Club of Dedham. The Dedham Public School System (Dedham Public Schools) is a Pre-kindergarten, PK–Twelfth grade, 12 graded school district in Dedham, Massachusetts.
