João Bernardo Vieira
João Bernardo "Nino" Vieira (; 27 April 1939 – 2 March 2009) was a Bissau-Guinean politician and military officer who served as President of Guinea-Bissau from 1980 to 1999, except for a three-day period in May 1984, and from 2005 until his assassination in 2009. After seizing power from President Luís Cabral in a military coup in 1980, Vieira ruled as part of the Military Council of the Revolution until 1984, when civilian rule was returned. Opposition parties were allowed in 1991, and Vieira won a multiparty presidential election in 1994. He was ousted at the end of the 1998–1999 civil war and went into exile. He made a political comeback in 2005, winning that year's presidential election. Vieira was shot dead by soldiers on 2 March 2009, apparently in retaliation for a bomb blast at army headquarters that killed Guinea-Bissau's military chief General Batista Tagme Na Waie hours before. João Bernardo Vieira II, born in Bissau on August 17, 1977, is the Secretary of State for Transport and Communications of Guinea-Bissau and the spokesperson of the biggest party in Guinea-Bissau. João André Ribeiro Vieira (born 19 December 1991) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a striker for Liga 3 club Varzim. Club career Born in Leiria, Vieira joined hometown União Leiria's youth system at the age of 8 where he completed his formation. He made his senior debuts in the Second Division at the third level of the league system, on loan to Atlético Reguengos in the 2010-11 season. João Pedro Vieira (born 8 November 1997), known as João Vieira, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Paysandu. Career Born in Pato Branco, Paraná, João Vieira joined Internacional's youth setup at the age of 11. He made his first team debut on 23 February 2017, coming on as a late substitute for goalscorer Andrigo in a 3–1 away win over Criciúma, for the year's Primeira Liga. Ahead of the 2018 season, João Vieira moved to São José-RS. He subsequently spent a short period at Serra Macaense, before moving abroad with Spanish Segunda División B side Internacional de Madrid in the middle of 2019.
