João Branco
João Guedes Branco (born 1 July 1968) is a French-born Portuguese theatrical actor and reviewer, professor, and programmer. He had a theatrical career for over 30 years and appeared in more than 50 plays, most of them in Mindelo, Cape Verde. Branco founded the Portuguese Cultural Centre's Theatrical Group on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde, São Vicente. He took part in the Mindelo International Film Festival, which is a major event in Portuguese-speaking African countries, Lusophone African theatre. He was also a founder of Academia Livre de Artes Integradas do Mindelo, the Free Academy of Integrated Arts of Mindelo (ALAIM), which introduced a new model of artistic education to São Vicente. National Library Of Cape Verde
The National Library of Cape Verde () is located in Praia, Cape Verde. The library was established in 1999. The library maintains the National Bibliography, contains the country's historical archives and the theses and dissertation bank and is a legal deposit. It also serves as the public library of Praia, the country's capital. Projects In 2001, the library established the Institute of the National Library and the Book () which aims to promote literacy, particularly among children and young adults. According to the United Nations, as of 2015 approximately 86 percent of adult Cape Verdeans are literate. The project also works to disperse texts throughout the country and support national authors. Eugénio de Paula Tavares (born 18 October 1867 in the island of Brava; died 1 June 1930 in Vila Nova Sintra) was a Cape Verdean poet. He is known through his famous poems ('' mornas''), mostly written in the Creole of Brava. Biography Eugénio de Paula Tavares was born on the island of Brava in October 1867 to Francisco de Paula Tavares and Eugénia Roiz Nozzolini Tavares. His family is mainly descended from Santarém, Portugal. He was baptized at the Saint John the Baptist (São João Baptista) church in Brava. Mário Lúcio Sousa (born October 21, 1964) is a Capeverdean singer, composer, writer, politician and a painter. From 2011 to 2016, he was the Capeverdean Minister of Culture. Biography Childhood and teenage years He was born Lúcio Matias de Sousa Mendes in the town of Tarrafal in the island of Santiago's north in the final decade of Portuguese rule. Mário Lúcio lost his father when he was 12. At age 15, he and his seven siblings lost his mother. He lived in the barrack buildings of the Cape Verdean forces in his hometown under the care of the military. In 1984, he received a scholarship by the Cuban government in Havana where he studied and graduated six years later. He returned to his country where he practiced law.
