João Alves (footballer, Born 1952)
João António Ferreira Resende Alves (born 5 December 1952) is a Portuguese football manager and former player. A skilled attacking midfielder, he was considered one of the best Portuguese players of his generation, and earned the nickname ''Luvas Pretas'' from the black gloves he used to wear while playing following in the style of his grandfather Carlos Alves. During his career he represented mainly, with equal individual and team success, Benfica and Boavista, also coaching the latter club on three separate occasions. Playing career Club Born in Albergaria-a-Velha, Aveiro District, Alves started playing at youth level for A.D. Sanjoanense, being recruited in 1969 by S.L. Benfica. His first professional team was Varzim S.C. in the 1972–73 season followed by C.D. Montijo, the latter being his Primeira Liga experience. Albergaria-a-Velha
Albergaria-a-Velha ( ), officially the Municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha (), is a town and a municipality in the Aveiro District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 25,252, in an area of 158.83 km2. It had 19,687 eligible voters in 2006. History In 1117, D. Teresa, Countess of Portucale, and mother of Afonso Henriques the first king of Portugal, donated to the nobleman Gonçalo Eriz the lands that constitute Albergaria-a-Velha. As part of the donation the nobleman was obligated to maintain open a hospice for poor travels. The document referred to this shelter for the travelling poor, or ''albergaria'', and thus the area was known as ''Albergaria''. Later, the ''Carta do Couto de Osselôa'' was discovered that definitely identified both the first document to refer to Portugal as a '' Kingdom'' and at the same figured in the identification of Albergaria-a-Velha as an administrative unit of the country. The 1984 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament was held in France from 12 to 27 June 1984. It was the seventh UEFA European Championship, a competition held every four years and endorsed by UEFA. Soviet Union National Football Team
The Soviet Union national football team () was the national football team who represented the Soviet Union from 1922 to 1992. After the breakup of the Union the team was transformed into the CIS national football team. FIFA and UEFA considers the CIS national football team (and ultimately, the Russia national football team) as the Soviet successor team allocating its former records to them (except for the Olympic records which are not combined due to the IOC policy); nevertheless, a large percentage of the team's former players came from outside the Russian SFSR, mainly from the Ukrainian SSR, and following the breakup of the Soviet Union, some such as Andrei Kanchelskis from the former Ukrainian SSR, continued to play in the new Russia national football team. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. 1983 UEFA Cup Final
The 1983 UEFA Cup Final was played on 4 May 1983 and 18 May 1983 between Anderlecht of Belgium and Benfica of Portugal. Anderlecht won 2–1 on aggregate. Because of the construction of their new stadium, Anderlecht played their home games in the Heysel stadium in 1983, which included the first leg of the UEFA Cup final. After half an hour, Frank Vercauteren was able to provide a cross, which Kenneth Brylle headed in. Anderlecht travelled to Lisbon with the smallest lead. Benfica started the return match with a series of chances. This resulted in a goal by Shéu in the 32nd minute. Only 6 minutes later, the technically skilled Juan Lozano restored the balance on a pass from Franky Vercauteren. The Taça de Portugal (; ) is an annual association football competition and the premier knockout tournament in Portuguese football. For sponsorship reasons, it has been known as Taça de Portugal Generali Tranquilidade since the 2024–25 season. Organised by the Portuguese Football Federation since it was first held in 1938, the competition is open to professional and amateur clubs from the top-four league divisions.
