Joy McLauchlan
Marilyn Joy Quigley (born 9 May 1948), also known as Joy McLauchlan, is a former New Zealand politician. Early life and family Quigley was born in Geraldine on 9 May 1948, the daughter of Jessie Isobel Quigley (née Scott) and Maurice Quigley. She was educated at Geraldine High School, and went on to study at the University of Otago, completing a Diploma of Physical Education in 1967. She later was awarded a Teacher Taining Certificate in 1980, having studied at the Hutt Valley campus of Christchurch Teachers' College, and also took papers towards a Bachelor of Education at Massey University. In 1969, Quigley married Alistair John McLauchlan, and the couple had two children before divorcing in 1997. She reverted to her maiden name in 1998. Western Hutt was a New Zealand parliamentary electorate from 1969 to 1996. Population centres Through an amendment in the Electoral Act in 1965, the number of electorates in the South Island was fixed at 25, an increase of one since the 1962 electoral redistribution. It was accepted that through the more rapid population growth in the North Island, the number of its electorates would continue to increase, and to keep proportionality, three new electorates were allowed for in the 1967 electoral redistribution for the next election. In the North Island, five electorates were newly created (including Western Hutt) and one electorate was reconstituted while three electorates were abolished. Don McKinnon
Sir Donald Charles McKinnon (born 27 February 1939) is a New Zealand politician who served as the 12th deputy prime minister of New Zealand and the minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand. He was the fourth secretary-general of the Commonwealth of Nations from 2000 until 2008. Early life McKinnon was born in Blackheath, London. Kerikeri
Kerikeri () is a town in the Bay of Islands, in the Far North District of the North Island of New Zealand. It lies at the head of Kerikeri Inlet, a northwestern arm of the Bay of Islands, where fresh water of the Kerikeri River enters the Pacific Ocean. It is sometimes called the Cradle of the Nation, as it was the site of the first permanent Christian mission station in the country, and has some of the oldest buildings in the country. It is a rapidly expanding centre of subtropical and allied horticulture. Naming The missionaries who established the settlement of Kerikeri initially called it Gloucester Town, but this name did not see continued use. The New Zealand Suffrage Centennial Medal 1993 was established by Royal Warrant on 1 July 1993. It was created to commemorate Women's suffrage in New Zealand and to recognize those New Zealand and Commonwealth citizens who had made a significant contribution to women's rights or women's issues in New Zealand. The medal was only awarded in 1993. Background Women's suffrage in New Zealand was achieved by the passage of the Electoral Act 1893 on 19 September 1893. A list MP is a member of parliament (MP) elected from a party list rather than a geographic electoral district. The place in Parliament is due to the number of votes the party won, not to votes received by the MP personally.
