Joy Damousi
Joy Damousi, is an Australian historian and Dean of Arts, Professor and Director of the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at Australian Catholic University. She was Professor of History in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne for most of her career, and retains a fractional appointment. She was the President of the Australian Academy of the Humanities from 2017 to 2020. Early life and education Damousi was born in Melbourne, Victoria. Her parents George and Sophia migrated to Australia from Greece in 1956 and 1957 respectively. Damousi graduated from La Trobe University where she completed her Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) and the Australian National University where she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1987. ''Australian Historical Studies'', formerly known as ''Historical Studies: Australia and New Zealand'' (1940–1967) and ''Historical Studies'' (1967–1987), is one of the oldest historical journals in Australia. It is regarded as the country's leading journal of Australian history. History The journal was first published in 1940 by the University of Melbourne's Department of History as ''Historical Studies: Australia and New Zealand'', continuing under that name until 1967, when it adopted the name ''Historical Studies''. Judith Smart
Judith Smart (born 20 October 1950) is an Australian social historian and feminist. Early life and education Born in Melbourne, Victoria on 20 October 1950, Smart completed her secondary education at Mac.Robertson Girls' High School. She graduated from Monash University with a BA (1971) and DipEd (1972). Returning to Monash she completed a PhD with the title "War and the concept of a new social order: Melbourne 1914–1915" in 1992. Career On graduation, Smart spent 1973 teaching at Sandringham Technical School. The following year she joined Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (now RMIT University), over the years rising to associate professor in 2003. Smart retired in 2005 but continued her association with RMIT University initially as adjunct professor and later honorary associate professor. Ann Curthoys
Ann Curthoys, (born 5 September 1945) is an Australian historian and academic. Early life and education Curthoys was born in Sydney, New South Wales, on 5 September 1945, and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney. In 1965, she took part in the Freedom Ride (Australia), Freedom Ride which highlighted racism against Aboriginal Australians in several towns. She completed a PhD at Macquarie University in 1973 and subsequently worked as a tutor and research assistant. Kim Rubenstein
Kim Rubenstein ( ; born 1965) is an Australian legal scholar, lawyer and political candidate. She is a professor at the University of Canberra. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. Desley Deacon
Desley Deacon (born 1941) is an Australian sociologist, historian and biographer. She has been professor emeritus at the Australian National University since 2009. Early life and education Deacon was born in Pomona, Queensland in 1941. She is the daughter of Molly (née Head) and Frank Straker. She boarded at St Margaret's Anglican Girls School in Brisbane for her high school education. In 1963 she graduated from the University of Queensland with a BA (Hons). Henry Reynolds (historian)
Henry Reynolds (born 1938) is an Australian historian whose primary work has focused on the frontier conflict between European settlers in Australia and Indigenous Australians. He was the first academic historian to advocate for Indigenous land rights, becoming known with his first major work, '' The Other Side of the Frontier'' (1981).
