Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the List of Solar System objects by size, largest in the Solar System. It is a gas giant with a Jupiter mass, mass more than 2.5 times that of all the other planets in the Solar System combined and slightly less than one-thousandth the mass of the Sun. Jovian (emperor)
Jovian (; ; ; 331 – 17 February 364) was Roman emperor from June 363 to February 364. As part of the imperial bodyguard, he accompanied Julian on his campaign against the Sasanian Empire. Julian was killed in battle, and the exhausted and ill-provisioned army declared Jovian his successor. Unable to cross the Tigris, Jovian made peace with the Sasanids on humiliating terms. He spent the rest of his seven-month reign traveling back to Constantinople. After his arrival at Edessa, Jovian was petitioned by bishops over doctrinal issues concerning Christianity. Albeit the last emperor to rule the whole Empire during his entire reign, he died at Dadastana, never having reached the capital. Jovians And Herculians
The Jovians () and Herculians (Latin: ''Herculiani'') were the senior palatine imperial guard units under the rule of Roman Emperor Diocletian (r. 284–305). They continued in existence thereafter as senior units in the field armies of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires. History The name originated in the equation of the two co-emperors Diocletian and Maximian with the Roman gods Jove and Hercules. The old-established Praetorian Guard was based at the ''Castra Praetoria'' in Rome, and had frequently proved disloyal, making and deposing emperors and even on one occasion in 193 putting the Imperial throne up for auction to the highest bidder (cf: Didius Julianus). Jovian (lemur)
Jovian (April 10, 1994 – November 10, 2014) was a Coquerel's sifaka lemur, best known for portraying the title character in the children's television series ''Zoboomafoo''. Biography Jovian was born on April 10, 1994, at the Duke Lemur Center in Durham, North Carolina, to parents Nigel and Flavia. When Martin Kratt and his younger brother Chris wanted a lemur co-host for their TV show ''Zoboomafoo'', Martin returned to the Duke Lemur Center, where he had previously volunteered while a student at Duke University. In 1997, the Kratts prepared for the show by filming Jovian and his parents jumping around an outdoor cage modeled on the stage set. Jovian appeared on the program from January 1999 to November 2001. Jovian would appear mostly in the opening segments, before transforming into a talking lemur puppet after eating his meals. Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, has appeared in works of fiction across several centuries. The way the planet has been depicted has evolved as more has become known about its composition; it was initially portrayed as being entirely solid, later as having a high-pressure atmosphere with a solid surface underneath, and finally as being entirely gaseous. It was a popular setting during the pulp era of science fiction. Life on the planet has variously been depicted as identical to humans, larger versions of humans, and non-human. Non-human life on Jupiter has been portrayed as primitive in some works and more advanced than humans in others. Iovianus Pontanus
Giovanni Pontano (1426–1503), later known as Giovanni Gioviano (), was a humanist and poet from Cerreto di Spoleto, in central Italy. He was the leading figure of the Accademia Pontaniana after the death of Antonio Beccadelli in 1471, and the academy took his name. Biography Pontano was born at Cerreto in the Duchy of Spoleto, where his father was murdered in one of the frequent civic brawls which then disturbed the peace of Italian towns. His date of birth is given in various sources between 1421 and 1429; it is often given as 1426, but may have been 1429. His mother escaped with the boy to Perugia, and it was here that Pontano received his first instruction in languages and literature. Failing to recover his patrimony, he abandoned Umbria, and at the age of twenty-two established himself at Naples, which continued to be his chief place of residence during a long and prosperous career. ''Jovian Chronicles'' is a science fiction game setting published by Dream Pod 9 since 1997. It introduces a complete universe for role-playing and wargaming space combat featuring mecha, giant spacecraft, and epic space battles. The ''Jovian Chronicles'' setting was originally published as a pair of licensed supplements for the '' Mekton'' role-playing game; Ianus Publications released two volumes—''Jovian Chronicles'' and ''Europa Incident—''in 1992. Jovian–Plutonian Gravitational Effect
The Jovian–Plutonian gravitational effect was a hoax phenomenon broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on 1 April 1976. The hoax purported that a conjunction of the planets Jupiter and Pluto (Pluto would later be reclassified by astronomers as a dwarf planet) would cause a noticeable short-term reduction in gravity on Earth. The hoax was invented for April Fools' Day by the English astronomer Patrick Moore. Background Patrick Moore (4 March 1923 – 9 December 2012) was the doyen of British television astronomers, boasting a long career in public service broadcasting, a quick-fire manner of speech, and a number of eccentric habits, including the wearing of a monocle. There are 97 moons of Jupiter with confirmed orbits .
