Journey From The Fall
''Journey from the Fall'' () is a 2006 independent film by writer/director/editor Ham Tran, about the Vietnamese re-education camp and boat people experience following the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. This drama was released on March 23, 2007, by ImaginAsian to sold-out screenings. The film is notable for having been financed entirely by the Vietnamese American community. Plot The film traces the story of a family's struggle for survival in the aftermath of the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, to North Vietnam's communist regime. After her South Vietnamese Army husband Long, is imprisoned in a North Vietnamese re-education camp, Mai, her son Lai, and her mother-in-law escape Vietnam by boat in the hopes of starting a new life in Southern California. Ham Tran
Ham Tran () is a Vietnamese American film writer, editor, and director. He is of Hoa (Chinese Vietnamese) ancestry, specifically Teochew. He earned an MFA in film directing from the UCLA Film School and is most famous for his thesis film '' The Anniversary'', which was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Live Action Short Film. His most recent effort is the feature film '' How to Fight in Six Inch Heels'' which had its U.S. premiere on 13 March 2014 at CAAMFest in San Francisco. Tran also directed the full-length Vietnamese boat people and re-education camp drama, '' Journey From the Fall'', which was picked up in North America by ImaginAsian Pictures and released nationally on March 23, 2007. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review aggregator, review-aggregation website for film and television. The Asian Festival of First Films () (AFFF) was an annual film festival held in Singapore from 2005 to 2009 to celebrate and provide a platform for emerging filmmakers. It was also part of the Asian Film Market. The festival focused on first-time film- and documentary-makers and provided a platform for emerging film talent, including directors, actors and writers. Films submitted were screened at Golden Village's cinemas in Singapore. It culminated in an awards event during which the results of the competition were announced. The Asian Excellence Awards was an annual celebration of the outstanding achievements of Asians and Asian Americans in film, television, music, and the performing arts. The Asian Excellence Awards is the only nationally televised event celebrating significant Asian and Asian American achievements in entertainment and the arts. The Anchorage International Film Festival (AIFF) is the largest film festival in Alaska. It is held annually in Anchorage. Its slogan is "Films Worth Freezing For." ''Nguoi Viet Daily News'' () is the first, oldest, and largest daily newspaper published in Vietnamese outside of Vietnam. The name of their newspaper ''người Việt'' symbolizes Vietnamese people".
