Geography
Geography (from Ancient Greek ; combining 'Earth' and 'write', literally 'Earth writing') is the study of the lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena of Earth. Geography is an all-encompassing discipline that seeks an understanding of Earth and world, its human and natural complexities—not merely where objects are, but also how they have changed and come to be. While geography is specific to Earth, many concepts can be applied more broadly to other Astronomical object, celestial bodies in the field of planetary science. The National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE), chartered in 1915, is a non-profit scientific and educational society in the United States that supports geography education. History George J. Miller, a professor at the Mankato Normal School, announced his interest in forming a national organization for geography education at a meeting of the National Education Association in St. Paul, MN in 1914. His goal was to bridge the gap between the subject expertise of college professors and the pedagogical training and insights of K-12 teachers. The purpose was to “increase the effectiveness of geography teaching in America”. The organization's establishment was approved at a meeting of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) in 1915, and the constitution adopted in 1916 called for a national Board of Directors and the establishment of state councils.
