José Torres Ramírez
José "Pito" Torres Ramírez is a Puerto Rican politician affiliated with the Popular Democratic Party (PPD). He has been a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives since 2009 representing District 27. Early years and studies José Torres Ramírez was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico on July 27, 1962. He studied at the Colegio Nuestra Señora de Valvanera, and then at the island's public school system. Torres Ramírez graduated from the school of Mortuary Sciences of Mayagüez, and is a member of the College of Health Professionals. He also studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and is certified in handling fraud. Professional career Torres Ramírez worked as a retailer. ''Carmen'' () is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on the Carmen (novella), novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. Coamo, Puerto Rico
Coamo (, ) is a town and municipality founded in 1579 in the south-central region of Puerto Rico, located north of Santa Isabel; south of Orocovis and Barranquitas; east of Villalba and Juana Díaz; and west of Aibonito and Salinas. The municipality of Coamo is spread over 10 barrios and Coamo Pueblo – the town or downtown area and administrative center of the city. The Coamo municipality is also a Micropolitan Statistical Area and as such is part of the Ponce-Yauco-Coamo Combined Statistical Area. Puerto Rican General Election, 2008
General elections were held in Puerto Rico on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, to elect the officials of the government that would serve for the next four years, most notably the Governor of Puerto Rico. The gubernatorial election was won by incumbent Resident Commissioner Luis Fortuño of the New Progressive Party (PNP), who defeated incumbent governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) by 53% to 41%. Most other positions were won by PNP candidates, with Pedro Pierluisi winning the election for Resident Commissioner, and the party winning a majority of seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
