José Mayorga
José Agustin Mayorga (born August 20, 1992) is a Panamanian professional baseball coach and former player who is the current manager of the Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League. He has also managed the Panama national baseball team and the Federales de Chiriquí of the Panamanian Professional Baseball League. Signing with the Philadelphia Phillies as an international free agent on May 13, 2010, Mayorga spent five years in the Phillies system. He spent three years with the VSL Phillies of the Venezuelan Summer League, hitting .284 in his final season in 2012, before being promoted to the Rookie-level Gulf Coast Phillies the next year, hitting .196. With the Low-A Lakewood Blue Claws, he hit .286 in 2014. Splitting time between Lakewood and High-A Clearwater, Mayorga hit .192 in his final year in the minors. Catcher is a position in baseball and softball. When a batter takes their turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. The catcher typically calls for pitches using PitchCom, or hand signals. The calls are based on the pitcher's mechanics and strengths, as well as the batter's tendencies and weaknesses. The Florida Complex League Blue Jays are a Rookie-level affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, competing in the Florida Complex League of Minor League Baseball. Prior to 2021, the team was known as the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays. The team plays its home games in Dunedin, Florida, at the Bobby Mattick Training Center at Englebert Complex.
