José Ignacio Rivero
José Ignacio Rivero y Hernández ("Pepinillo" Rivero) was a Cuban exile and journalist. He is the grandson of Don Nicolás Rivero y Muñiz, Nicolas Rivero, who in 1895 became the director of ''El Diario de la Marina, Diario de la Marina,'' then the most popular newspaper in Cuba, and the son of José Ignacio Rivero Alonso, Pepin Rivero, who took over the newspaper upon the death of Don Nicolas in 1919. After the newspaper's public battle with Fidel Castro, Rivero was exiled from Cuba. He is the first cousin of Felipe Rivero Diaz, Felipe Rivero, the director of the Cuban Nationalist Association at the time that they were implicated in the firing of a bazooka at the Headquarters of the United Nations, United Nations headquarters in 1964. José Ignacio Rivero Alonso
Don José Ignacio "Pepín" Rivero y Alonso was a Cuban journalist and the 14th director of ''Diario de la Marina'', which was the oldest and most popular newspaper in Cuba. He is considered to be "one of the most subtle writers of his time and one of the best writers of Criollo people, Spanish-American journalism in the 20th century". The journalist Gerardo Gallegos wrote upon his death that Rivero was "the most hated and, at the same time, the most beloved Cuban of his time." He took over management of ''Diario de la Marina'' from his father, the 1st Count of Rivero, Nicolás Rivero y Muñiz. Rolando Cubela Secades
Rolando Cubela Secades (19 January 1933 – 23 August 2022) was a Cuban revolutionary leader who played a vital part in the Cuban Revolution, having been a founding member of the Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil and later the military leader of the DRE's Escambray Mountain front, achieving the rank of Commander, the highest military rank in the Revolutionary Army. After the Revolution succeeded in 1959, Cubela became Cuba's envoy to UNESCO. Under the cryptonym AM/LASH, Cubela became "an important asset" of the Central Intelligence Agency, and worked with them on plots to assassinate Fidel Castro. In 1966, Cubela was arrested for plotting the assassination of Castro, and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Released in 1979, he went into exile in Spain.
