Josiah Leavitt
Josiah Leavitt (1744–1804) was an early Massachusetts physician and inventor. Possessed of an early love for mechanical movements and for music, Dr. Leavitt eventually gave up his medical practice and moved to Boston, where he became one of the earliest manufacturers of pipe organs in the United States. Early life Josiah Leavitt was born October 21, 1744, in Hingham, Massachusetts, the son of Hezekiah and Grace (Hatch) Leavitt. Hezekiah Leavitt was a prosperous Hingham merchant who owned one of the town's largest warehouses on the harbor, a large wharf and a share of the town's gristmill and fisheries business. Josiah Leavitt's father was a close friend and business associate of Rev. Ebenezer Gay, third minister of Old Ship Church, Hingham's Meetinghouse. Dedham ( ) is a town in and the county seat of Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 25,364 at the 2020 census. It is located on Boston's southwest border. Worthington Ridge Historic District
The Worthington Ridge Historic District encompasses the historic town center of Berlin, Connecticut. It runs mostly along Worthington Ridge Road from the intersection of Mill Street ( Route 372) to Sunset Lane. This section of road was historically part of the Boston Post Road laid out in 1673, and is now lined by a diversity of residential architecture and several of the town's civic buildings. In 1974, the Berlin Historic District was formed in order to preserve the integrity of the architecture of the village. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. Thomas Johnston (engraver)
Thomas Johnston (1708–1767) was an American engraver, japanner, and heraldic painter of Colonial Boston. He painted views of Boston and made plates of heraldic. He also made furniture and sold it for a business. He is noted for making the first historical print engraved in America. It was engraved on a copper plate and widely published by a well known printer and came with a history pamphlet. Johston was a church organ builder and is recognized for being the first person who manufactured church organs as a regular business in America.
