Joshua Evans (Quaker Minister)
Joshua Evans (September 23, 1731 – July 6, 1798) was an American Quaker minister, journalist, and abolitionist. He was born to Thomas Evans and Rebecca Owen in Evesham Township in Burlington County, New Jersey. Joshua Evans and Priscilla Collins, daughter of John Collins and Elizabeth Moore, were married at Haddonfield Monthly Meeting on November 2, 1753. Evans, after experiencing a religious conversion about the year 1754, devoted his life to sharing his interpretation of the gospel. He practiced a simple ministry and an ascetic and pious life style, and was a vegetarian. In 1759, Haddonfield Monthly Meeting acknowledged him as a minister. Evans was an abolitionist and a passionate supporter of Quaker plainness and the Peace Testimony and war tax resistance.Gross, David M. Joshua ( ), also known as Yehoshua ( ''Yəhōšuaʿ'', Tiberian: ''Yŏhōšuaʿ,'' lit. 'Yahweh is salvation'), Jehoshua, or Josue, functioned as Moses' assistant in the books of Exodus and Numbers, and later succeeded Moses as leader of the Israelite tribes in the Book of Joshua of the Hebrew Bible. Joshua G. Evans (born June 27, 1983) is an American politician and a former Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives representing District 66, from 2009 to 2015. He unsuccessfully ran for the Tennessee Senate's 21st District in 2014. Education Evans graduated from Greenbrier High School in 2001. Joshua Ryan Evans (January 10, 1982 – August 5, 2002) was an American actor who became known for his role of Timmy Lenox in the soap opera '' Passions''. Evans was aged 17 to 20 during his tenure on ''Passions'', but had the appearance and voice of a small child due to achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism. He was tall. Joshua Evans (born January 16, 1971) is an American filmmaker, screenwriter, author, and actor best known for his role in ''Born on the Fourth of July'' (1989). Early life and education Evans was born in New York City to actress Ali MacGraw and producer Robert Evans. His father was of Russian-Jewish descent, and his maternal grandmother was of Hungarian-Jewish ancestry. His maternal grandfather was Irish. Evans is the nephew of the late producer Charles Evans, Sr., the stepson of actor Steve McQueen, and the stepbrother of actor and race car driver Chad McQueen. Mijoshki Antwon Evans (September 6, 1972 – February 4, 2021) was an American professional American football, football player. Career Evans played college football, collegiately at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama with whom he was a four-year starter. Evans was signed as an undrafted free agent in 1995 by the Houston Oilers and stayed with them during the franchise's move to Tennessee. During the 1999 AFC Championship Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Evans tackled quarterback Mark Brunell in the end zone for a safety. The Titans then made it to Super Bowl XXXIV, in which Evans started. However, they lost to the Kurt Warner-led St. Louis Rams. In 2000, Evans served a one-year suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. In 2002, Evans signed with The New York Jets with whom he spent the last three seasons of his NFL career. Evans died in February 2021 at the age of 48 after a battle with kidney cancer.
