Josephine Sparre
''Josephine'' Sophie Anette Charlotte Sparre af Söfdeborg (28 July 1829, Dyrendal, Norway – 17 August 1892), called ''Jossan'' or ''Schossan'', was a Swedish noble, lady-in-waiting and a royal mistress to King Charles XV of Sweden. Life Josephine Sparre was born to Swedish noble colonel chamberlain Johan Alexander Artemis Sparre and the Norwegian Sofia Adelaide Rosalie Ancker. She was the sibling of politician Nils Gustaf Alexander Sparre and niece to minister Gustaf Adolf Vive Sparre. Sparre was ''hovfröken'' (maid of honor) to the Crown Princess of Sweden, Louise of the Netherlands, in 1851–59, and '' kammarfröken'' (senior maid of honor) in 1859-62. Sparre was described as so dominant that the Crown Princess and her maid of honor was said to have changed places with each other and Louise being the lady-in-waiting to Josephine Sparre rather than the other way around. Fritz Von Dardel
Fritz Ludvig von Dardel (24 March 1817 – 27 May 1901) was a Swedish diarist, illustrator and early comics artist. He was a courtier, and is known for his diary and illustrations depicting the life of the Swedish court in the mid-19th century. Biography Fritz von Dardel was born in Neuchâtel to the Swiss noble Georges-Alexandre von Dardel, who was inducted into the Swedish nobility in 1810, and the Swedish noble Hedvig Sofia Charlotta Amalia Lewenhaupt, and married the Swedish noble Augusta Silfverschiöld. He became adjutant to the Crown Prince, later King Charles XV of Sweden, in 1850. Juliane Cathrine Wilhelmine Wedel Jarlsberg (1818–1872) was a Norwegian court official. She served as the '' overhoffmesterinne'' for Queen Louise of Norway. Life She was the daughter of Norwegian baron Ferdinand Carl Maria Wedel-Jarlsberg (1781–1857) and Juliane Wilhelmine von Benzon (1783–1853). In 1851, she married the Norwegian nobleman Frederik (Fritz) Joachim Wedel Jarlsberg (1819–1880). She was the mother of Fritz Wedel Jarlsberg. Her parents served at the Norwegian court, where her father was head of the court of king Oscar I and her mother as ''statsfru'' (lady-in-waiting) to queen mother Désirée Clary. Prior to her marriage, Juliane Wedel Jarlsberg served as ''hoffrøken'' (maid of honour) to queen Josephine of Sweden and Norway under Fanny Løvenskiold. Lady of the Bedchamber is the title of a lady-in-waiting holding the official position of personal attendant on a British queen regnant or queen consort. The position is traditionally held by the wife of a peer. They are ranked between the Mistress of the Robes and the Women of the Bedchamber; unlike the latter they are not in regular attendance, however they are on duty for the more important public occasions. On overseas visits Queen Elizabeth II was usually accompanied by two ladies-in-waiting, one of whom was usually a Lady of the Bedchamber. A lady-in-waiting or court lady is a female personal assistant at a court, attending on a royal woman or a high-ranking noblewoman. Historically, in Europe, a lady-in-waiting was often a noblewoman but of lower rank than the woman to whom she attended. Although she may either have received a retainer or may not have received compensation for the service she rendered, a lady-in-waiting was considered more of a secretary, courtier, or companion to her mistress than a servant. Hanna Styrell
Hanna Styrell ( Stockholm, 21 January 1842 – 19 April 1904), was a Swedish actress. She is known as the royal mistress of King Charles XV of Sweden. Life Styrell was the daughter of a baker in Stockholm. She became an actress at the age of seventeen, when she performed in the inauguration of the Odéon Theatre in 1859 under the name Hanna Stjernblad. Her acting career does not appear to have been significant as she is not mentioned much in theater history, and may have ended when she became the mistress of the king. She suddenly appeared as the hostess on the King's country estate Bellevue in the summer of 1860. At the opening of parliament in 1862, a paper reported: "Among the public people, who was present at the act, a certain miss - blad was noticed, escorted by two uniformed butlers to the event."
