Joseph Patrick Rogers Sr. (September 30, 1924 – April 1, 2011) was an American football player and coach. He served as the interim head football coach at Villanova University for the final six games of the 1959 season, compiling a record of 1–5, including the team's only win of the season. High School Career Joe Rogers was named all-scholastic athlete for both football and basketball at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He played under Jordan Olivar, who served as a mentor for much of Joe's professional career. College career After serving in the US Coast Guard from 1943 to 1945, Rogers entered Villanova University as a freshman in 1946 where he played halfback for the Wildcats. Rogers led the Wildcats in both scoring and rushing in 1946 with seven touchdowns for 42 points and 90 carries for 620 yards. Joseph Alfred Rogers (1 February 1908 – 28 August 1968) was an English cricketer from Bath, Somerset who played for Gloucestershire between 1929 and 1933. Joseph Rogers (1821–1889) was an English physician and campaigning medical officer. Life The elder brother of Thorold Rogers, he was born at West Meon, Hampshire. For 40 years Rogers promoted reform in the administration of the Poor Law. Beginning a medical practice in London in 1844, he became supernumerary medical officer at St Anne's, Soho, in 1855, on the occasion of an outbreak of cholera. The following year he was appointed medical officer to the Strand workhouse. The conditions in the Strand workhouse had been found very bad by the future reformer Louisa Twining, when she visited in 1853. Rogers had the workhouse master George Catch removed, on the grounds that Catch had delayed calling a doctor for a woman in pain giving birth, to save money. In 1861 Rogers came before the select committee of the House of Commons, speaking on the supply of drugs in workhouse infirmaries, and his views were adopted.
