Joseph Endom Jones
Joseph Endom Jones (October 15, 1852–October 14, 1922) was an American Baptist minister and professor at the Richmond Theological Seminary and Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia from 1876 to 1922. He was a major leader in the Baptist Church among blacks in Virginia. His son, Eugene Kinckle Jones, was a leader in the National Urban League. Early life Joseph E. Jones was born a slave in Lynchburg, Virginia, on October 15, 1852. At the age of six he started to work at a tobacco factory. Jones' mother believed that the end of slavery was near and that her boy should learn to read and write. She convinced another slave owned by the same family as herself, Robert A. Perkins, to teach Jones, coming to their home several nights per week. About 1864, the arrangement changed and Jones went to Perkins' cabin for lessons on Sunday mornings. Joseph Russell Jones (February 17, 1823 – April 11, 1909) was a successful American merchant and politician, a close friend of Ulysses S. Grant and an acquaintance of Abraham Lincoln. Biography Jones was born in Conneaut, Ohio, and his childhood was modest. His father died when he was two, necessitating the young Jones to curtail his formal education. At age 13, his career began as a store clerk. At 25, Jones had risen to become a partner in the mercantile firm of Benjamin H. Campbell in Galena, Illinois. This success gave Jones the financial means to build one of the grandest homes in Galena. His Italianate villa, Belvedere Mansion, was situated next to the Greek revival mansion of Elihu B. Washburne, Elihu Washburne, who was a prominent attorney and U.S. congressman (1853–1869). The neighbors developed a rich friendship, which was highly beneficial to Jones’ political career. Joseph Edwin Jones (born February 21, 1994) is an American professional football linebacker. He played college football at Northwestern. Early life Jones began playing football in the eighth grade at the insistence of his mother. He attended Plano High School, where he was an All-conference running back as a senior. He played with a broken bone in his right hand, collecting 710 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 11 receptions for 328 yards and 5 touchdowns in eight games. Joel Lofton Jones (born August 1, 1957) is an American professional wrestler, better known as Joel Deaton or Joe Deaton. He is most noticed for being one of the members of a tag team in Jim Crockett Promotions known as the Thunderfoots. He was the original Thunderfoot. Joseph Merrick Jones (August 20, 1902 – March 11, 1963) was an American lawyer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He served as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs in the U.S. State Department at the close of World War II, and was for many years the president of the Board of Tulane University. Jones graduated from Tulane and was admitted to the bar. He built a successful law practice in New Orleans as the senior partner of Jones, Flanders & Waechter.
