Joseph J. Franz (October 12, 1883 – September 9, 1970) was an actor and film director during the silent film era in the United States. Franz was born in Utica, New York. He died in Los Angeles in 1970. He was sometimes credited as Joseph J. Franz. He features in a Frontier (studio), Frontier advertisement with two of the studio's other stars. Franz acted on stage in stock theater for three years before he began acting in films. Utica () is the county seat of Oneida County, New York, United States. The tenth-most populous city in New York, its population was 65,283 in the 2020 census. It is located on the Mohawk River in the Mohawk Valley at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains, approximately west-northwest of Albany, east of Syracuse and northwest of New York City. Utica and the nearby city of Rome anchor the Utica–Rome metropolitan area comprising all of Oneida and Herkimer counties.
