Joseph F. Baca
Joseph Francis Baca (born October 1, 1936) is a New Mexico lawyer and judge who served as a justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court from January 1, 1989 to July 31, 2002, serving as chief justice from 1994 to 1996. He has engaged in various other avenues of public service at the state and national levels, and in 1994 was recommended by the Hispanic National Bar Association as a potential nominee for appointment to the Supreme Court of the United States. New Mexico Supreme Court
The New Mexico Supreme Court () is the highest court in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is established and its powers defined by Article VI of the New Mexico Constitution. It is primarily an appellate court which reviews civil and criminal decisions of New Mexico's trial courts of general jurisdiction and certain specialized legislative courts, only having original jurisdiction in a limited number of actions. It currently resides in the New Mexico Supreme Court Building in Santa Fe. The court's five justices are chosen by statewide election, or appointed by the governor if to fill a seat that has become vacant mid-term; the justices in turn choose who among them will serve as chief justice. Jesse Francis "Jeff" Bingaman Jr. (born October 3, 1943) is an American retired politician who served as a United States Senate, United States Senator from New Mexico from 1983 to 2013. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, he previously served as the 25th Attorney General of New Mexico from 1979 to 1983. During his time in the Senate, Bingaman served as Chairman of Committee Outreach for the Senate Democratic Caucus and was the longtime chair of the United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Senate Energy Committee.
