Joseph Daye
Joseph Daye (born 2 February 1990) is an Australian rules footballer who last played for Gold Coast in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early career Raised in Brisbane, Daye was a graduate of the AIS/AFL Academy. He hails from AFLQ club Zillmere Eagles and is a product of the 2007–08 Australia Post Queensland U18 side who also represented his state at under-15 and under-16 levels. AFL career Daye was picked up by Gold Coast as a zone selection. He made his debut on 7 May 2011 against the Brisbane Lions. He notably scored a goal with his first kick. The Southport Australian Football Club, nicknamed the Sharks, is an Australian rules football club based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast, Queensland, that competes in the Victorian Football League (VFL). 2011 AFL Season
The 2011 AFL season was the 115th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured seventeen clubs, with the newly established Gold Coast Suns, based in Gold Coast, Queensland, playing its inaugural season. The season ran from 24 March until 1 October, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Michael Long (footballer)
Michael Long (born ) is a former Australian rules footballer of Aboriginal descent who became a spokesperson for Indigenous rights and against racism in sport in Australia. Long played in dual Australian Football League (AFL) premierships with the Essendon Football Club, including a Norm Smith Medal for his 1993 grand final performance. As an activist, he is credited with being instrumental in the introduction of a racial vilification code in the AFL in 1995 and the inspiration behind "The Long Walk" commemorating the Stolen Generations, now a strong AFL tradition. In August 2023, Long began a walk between Melbourne and Canberra in support of the forthcoming Australian Indigenous Voice referendum.
