South Normanton is a village and civil parish in the Bolsover District of Derbyshire, England. The population at the 2011 Census was 9,445. An ex-mining village, it is two miles east of Alfreton. The historic industries of the village were agriculture, stocking, spinning and mining. Normanton means 'the farm of the north men' or 'Northwegans'. South Normanton Colliery closed in 1952, B Winning in 1964 and A Winning in 1969. Carnfield Hall was for several centuries the seat of the Revel family. Shuttlewood is a village situated about 2 miles north of Bolsover, in Bolsover District, Derbyshire, England. It is centred on the crossroads of two main roads; Bolsover- Mastin Moor and Clowne- Chesterfield. Shuttlewood is a former colliery village and thus has a lengthy mining heritage. It is a quiet village with a local shop and had a post office until June 2008. History Population figures in 1846 mentioned 46 inhabitants. A map of Shuttlewood dated 1898 shows the Brick and Tile Yard situated on Woodthorpe Road, now in the vicinity of Woodthorpe Close, the Travellers Rest public house, the chapel and the school that was later in 1918 mentioned as St Laurence's Church. Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1895 was the first season in which the English county cricket club Derbyshire played in the County Championship which had been established in 1890. The club settled their place by coming fifth with five championship wins. It was the club's 25th season although the matches in the period between 1888 and 1893 were not given first-class status. Matches in 1894 were accorded first class status, but were not included in the County Championship. 1895 season Derbyshire joined the County Championship, together with Essex, Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Hampshire. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1896 represents the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for twenty five years. It was their second season in the County Championship and they came seventh. 1896 season Derbyshire played 16 games in the County Championship, one match against MCC and one against the touring Australians. They won five matches in the County Championship and six matches altogether. Brewer's son Sydney Evershed was in his sixth season as captain. William Storer was top scorer, as well as keeping wicket and bowling to take 15 wickets. John Hulme took most wickets with 77 in the County Championship. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps.
