Joseph B. Raynor Jr.
Joseph Bryant "Joe" Raynor Jr. (January 26, 1923 – September 4, 2014) was a politician in the American state of North Carolina. He was born in Cumberland County, North Carolina in 1923. After graduating high school, he opened up an automotive supply business. He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in the 1960s and served eight consecutive terms. He was elected to the North Carolina State Senate in to represent the tenth district. He retired in 1992. Cumberland County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 334,508, making it the fifth-most populous county in North Carolina. The North Carolina House of Representatives is one of the two houses of the North Carolina General Assembly. The House is a 120-member body led by a Speaker of the House, who holds powers similar to those of the President pro-tem in the North Carolina Senate. The qualifications to be a member of the House are found in the state Constitution: "Each Representative, at the time of his election, shall be a qualified voter of the State, and shall have resided in the district for which he is chosen for one year immediately preceding his election." The North Carolina Senate is the upper chamber of the North Carolina General Assembly, which along with the North Carolina House of Representatives—the lower chamber—comprises the state legislature of North Carolina. The term of office for each senator is only two years. The Senate's prerogatives and powers are similar to those of the other house, the House of Representatives. Its members do, however, represent districts that are larger than those of their colleagues in the House. The President of the Senate is the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, but the Lt.
