Joseba Sarrionandia
Joseba Sarrionandia Uribelarrea (Iurreta, Biscay, April 13, 1958) is a Basque writer who has published a large number of books of poetry and short stories, as well as novels. He has been awarded on numerous occasions for his work, and is nowadays a respected literary personality in the Basque Country. In the early 80s, he was member of the Basque separatist group ETA. In 1985 he escaped from prison and since then he lived underground for decades while continuing to create and publish. In November 2016, it was revealed that he lives in Cuba, where he holds a position as lecturer at the University of Havana. Biography He earned a Basque Philology PhD from the University of Deusto, Bilbao and started working as a Basque language teacher. ''Argia'' is a weekly news magazine published in the Basque language, the oldest one still in circulation. Their main office is in Lasarte-Oria, Basque Country. Its name was ''Zeruko Argia'' from 1919 to 1921 and from 1963 to 1980, and ''Argia'' from 1921 to 1936 and from 1980 to present. It had to cease its activity because of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, and it could not be published again until 1963, when Francoist Spain lifted its ban on Basque-language publications. Mikel Laboa
Mikel Laboa Mancisidor (15 June 1934 – 1 December 2008) was one of the Basque Country (greater region), Basque Country's most important singer-songwriters. Considered the patriarch of Basque music, his music has had an influence on younger generations. A testament to this is the tribute album ''Txerokee, Mikel Laboaren Kantak'' ("Cherokee: Songs of Mikel Laboa"), published in 1991 by various younger-generation rock and folk music groups. His album ''Bat-Hiru'' ("One-Three") was chosen in a reader poll by the local ''Diario Vasco'' newspaper as the greatest Basque album in history. Basque ( ; ) is a language spoken by Basques and other residents of the Basque Country (greater region), Basque Country, a region that straddles the westernmost Pyrenees in adjacent parts of northern Spain and southwestern France. Kortatu
Kortatu was a Basque ska punk band from the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Autonomous Community formed in Irun in the summer of 1984. Kortatu was born in the context of the first democracy years in Spain in 1984. They had a big significance for left-wing basque nationalism (which rejected the new constitutional project) as precursors of a new wave of music: Basque Radical Rock (Rock Radikal Vasco or RRV in Spanish). Basque Radical Rock
Basque Radical Rock ( (RRV), ) was a musical genre born in the Southern Basque Country at the beginning of the 1980s and, although there was no specific event, it is considered to have ended in the last years of the decade. Basque Radical Rock bands were particularly influenced by punk bands like the Sex Pistols and the Clash. It was considered an underground movement, born in opposition to the values proclaimed by Francisco Franco and spread by thousands of people who felt with the Spanish transition to democracy their Basque national and social aspirations were betrayed. Imanol Larzabal Goñi (November 11, 1947 in San Sebastián - June 25, 2004 in Orihuela), known as Imanol, was a Basques, Basque Spain, Spanish singer and composer, and a champion of Basque language and culture. He went into exile from the Southern Basque Country, Spanish Basque Country twice: first during the Francoist Spain, Franco dictatorship, and again in the last years of his life due to conflict with Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA), a violent Basque separatist organization. Fermin (also Firmin, from Latin language, Latin ''Firminus''; Spanish language, Spanish ''Fermín'') was a holy man and martyr, traditionally venerated as the co-patron saint of Navarre, Spain. The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
''The Rime of the Ancient Mariner'' (originally ''The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere''), written by English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1797–98 and published in 1798 in the first edition of '' Lyrical Ballads'', is a poem that recounts the experiences of a sailor who has returned from a long sea voyage. Some modern editions use a revised version printed in 1817 that featured a gloss. The poem tells of the mariner stopping a man who is on his way to a wedding ceremony so that the mariner can share his story. The Wedding-Guest's reaction turns from amusement to impatience to fear to fascination as the mariner's story progresses, as can be seen in the language style; Coleridge uses narrative techniques such as personification and repetition to create a sense of danger, the supernatural, or serenity, depending on the mood in different parts of the poem.
