Jorhat Stadium
Jorhat Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Jorhat, Assam. This is the oldest stadium of Assam, inaugurated in 1950. It has earthen galleries which were designed by late Abani Mohan Choudhury. The stadium is a venue for cricket and Association football, football tournaments. The first Ranji Trophy match in Assam was held at Jorhat Stadium in 1949/50. The stadium is owned by Board of Sports of Assam and run by Jorhat District Sports Association. The stadium hosts ATPA Shield, the biggest attraction of football in Jorhat, involving top clubs from Northeast and rest of the country. The tournament was first held at this stadium in 1960. The Assam State Premier League team Jorhat Town Club uses the stadium as their home ground. In 2022, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development projects of Jorhat Stadium at par with that of international one. Jorhat ( /) is a major city in Upper Assam division, Upper Assam and among the fastest growing urban centres in the state of Assam in India. Etymology Jorhat ("jor" means twin and "hat" means market) means two hats or mandis - "Masorhaat" and "Sowkihat" which existed on the opposite banks of the Bhogdoi River, Bhugdoi river. The Ranji Trophy is a premier domestic first-class cricket championship played in India and organized annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). ATPA Shield
The Assam Tea Planters' Association Shield, commonly known as the ATPA Shield Football Tournament or ATPA Shield, is an Indian annual football tournament held in Jorhat, Assam and organised by the Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA). It is the third oldest football tournament of Assam after All India Independence Day Cup and Bordoloi Trophy. Since its inception in 1955, the tournament was very popular involving some leading clubs from northeast India and rest of the country. Kolkata giants East Bengal, Mohammedan and Mohun Bagan, as well as Dempo of Goa have competed in ATPA Shield. The coveted shield was donated and hosted by Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA). The Assam State Premier League (ASPL) is the state-level football league in the Indian state of Assam. It is the highest state-level football league in Assam organised by the Assam Football Association, currently contested by 8 clubs. History Assam State Premier League inaugural edition of the league started in 2008 with Assam Rifles winning its first title. After some years in 2015 the league was discontinued. Jorhat District Sports Association Ground or J.D.S.A. Field is a multi-purposed playground located in Jorhat, Assam. The ground was built in 1915 and has capacity of 1,000 spectators.
