Jorge Seijo
Jorge E. Seijo Figueroa (born 1942) is a radio and television personality. Early years Seijo was born and lived most of his life in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. At the age of 16 he started his radio career in Manatí, Puerto Rico at a local station, WMNT-AM (1500 kHz). He studied Economics at the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras and post graduate studies at George Washington University. He later worked as a customer service liaison for Eastern Airlines. He trained with the United States Army Special Forces in Fort Benning, Georgia and went on a tour of duty in the Vietnam War soon after. Radio career Following the war, Seijo rejoined the army as a commissioned officer, stationed in Virginia, before returning to Puerto Rico. He assisted his wife in managing a family business while returning to radio, first as a news commentator in various local radio stations, then as a commentator and producer at WAPA, also known as "WAPA Radio". Vega Alta () is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico. Vega Alta is on the northern coast of the island, north of Morovis and Corozal; east of Vega Baja; and west of Dorado with an area of . Vega Alta is subdivided into seven barrios and Vega Alta barrio-pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). Jewish Immigration To Puerto Rico
The Jewish immigration to Puerto Rico began in the 15th century with the arrival of the ''anusim'' (variously called ''conversos'', ''Crypto-Jews'', ''Secret Jews'' or ''marranos'') who accompanied Christopher Columbus on his second voyage. An open Jewish community did not flourish in the colony because Judaism was prohibited by the Spanish Inquisition. However, many migrated to mountainous parts of the island, far from the central power of San Juan, and continued to self-identify as Jews and practice Crypto-Judaism. It would be hundreds of years before an open Jewish community was established on the island. Very few American Jews settled in Puerto Rico after it was ceded by Spain to the United States under the terms of the 1898 Treaty of Paris, which ended the Spanish–American War.
