Jordan Riki
Jordan Riki (born 18 January 2000) is a New Zealand rugby league footballer who plays as a forward for the Brisbane Broncos in the National Rugby League (NRL). Background Riki was born in Raglan, New Zealand, however, he grew up in Christchurch playing his junior footy for the Hornby Panthers. For High School he attended Roman Catholic school - Saint Thomas's of Canterbury College in Christchurch. Riki is of Māori heritage through his mother and Indigenous Australian through his biological father. Career 2020 Prior to the season, Riki represented the Maori All Stars in their 30-16 victory over the Indigenous All Stars. Riki made his first grade debut in round 14 of the 2020 NRL season for Brisbane against the Canberra Raiders. Raglan, New Zealand
Raglan is a small beachside town located 48 km west of Hamilton, New Zealand on State Highway 23. It is known for its surfing, and volcanic black sand beaches. History The Ngāti Māhanga iwi occupied the area around Raglan in the late 18th century. There are at least 81 archaeological sites in the area, mainly near the coast. Limited radiocarbon dating puts the earliest sites at about 1400AD. The Māori people named the site ("the long pursuit"). One tradition says that Tainui priest, Rakataura, crossed Whāingaroa on his way to Kāwhia. Another says it was among the places the early Te Arawa explorer, Kahumatamomoe, with his nephew Īhenga, visited on their expedition from Maketū. 2022 NRL Season
The 2022 NRL season is the 115th season of professional rugby league in Australia and the 25th season run by the National Rugby League. Teams The lineup of teams remained unchanged for the 16th consecutive year. This became the second longest stretch of time (after 1947-1966 - 20 seasons) of a continuous line-up of teams in competition history (overtaking 1967-1981 - 15 seasons). Pre-season Pre-season matches were played between 12 February and 28 February 2022, before a 10-day lead up until the beginning of the regular season. It featured nineteen matches across three weekends, including the 2022 All Stars match, which was won by the Māori All Stars 16 – 10, and the annual Charity Shield match between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons, which the Dragons won 16–10. Mad Monday
'Mad Monday' is a term used in Australia to refer to the traditional end-of-season celebrations for professional (and sometimes amateur) players of various codes of football. Football matches are typically played on weekends; therefore, as the season nears its end with teams being eliminated, by Sunday night all results have been determined and teams will then know if they are to continue in the finals or if their season is over. Over the years, Mad Monday celebrations have been the catalyst for image-damaging incidents for professional footballers. This has led to calls for the tradition to be banned.
