Jonathan Wilkins
Jonathan Wilkins is an English ballroom dancer and dance teacher, born in London. He holds many titles in Professional Ballroom Dancing including being ten times Professional Ballroom Champion, 1997–2007 (in a partnership with Katusha Demidova which lasted eleven years, and brought considerable success). In 2004 they won the World Classic Showdance Championship, which is one of the subsidiary World Dance Council Dance Sport events. Their final result was to win the WDC Open Professional Ballroom title at the USA Open in Orlando, Florida 2007. From November 2007, Wilkins danced with Hazel Newberry. Together they became European Profession Ballroom Champions (2009) and British Professional Ballroom Champions (2009). Katusha Demidova
Katusha Demidova is a Russian professional ballroom dancer and instructor, now residing in the USA. She is the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 Professional World Ballroom Dance Champion, and also the International Professional, and British Open, Ballroom Champion. Her partner in these events was Arunas Bizokas. She is the sister of Anna Demidova who is also a dancer. Demidova previously danced with Jonathan Wilkins, who came second in the 2009 World event with Hazel Newberry. The Wilkins–Demidova partnership lasted from 1996 to 2007, culminating in a first-place finish in the USA Open Professional Standard. World Dance Council
The World Dance Council Ltd (WDC), is a registered limited company, the legal successor to the ''International Council of Ballroom Dancing'', and was established at a meeting organized by Phillip J. S. Richardson on 22 September 1950 in Edinburgh, Scotland. From 1996 to 2006 the WDC was known as the ''World Dance & Dance Sport Council Ltd'' (WD&DSC). The stated mission of the World Dance Council is to inspire, stimulate and promote excellence in education for the World Dance Council and Amateur League (WDC and AL) community. The primary objective, at the time of its formation, was to provide an agreed basis for holding world championships in competitive ballroom dance. That objective has been achieved. Hazel Newberry
Hazel Catherine Newberry MBE is one of the United Kingdom's leading ballroom dancers and dance teachers. She was three times undefeated World Professional Ballroom champion, dancing with Christopher Hawkins (2002–2004). The couple also won the International Professional Ballroom Championship in London in 2002 and 2003. This couple also won the European, Open British, UK, US Open and Asian Open. Before this, Newberry won both World and European Amateur Ballroom championships with Hawkins, in 1997. Newberry's career as an amateur concluded with thirteen successive victories in championship events in Europe and the USA, during 1997, including the World Games. From 2008, Newberry danced with Jonathan Wilkins. World Ballroom Dance Championship
This page lists the official World Champions – Professional Ballroom of the World Dance Council (WDC), and its historical predecessors. The championships are authorized and organized under the auspices of the WDC. The designation ''Ballroom'' replaces the previously used ''Modern'' or ''Standard'' in WDC terminology; it does not include the latin dances. World Championships of a sort have been held in ballroom dancing since 1909 when Camille de Rhynal held annual championships in Paris. Records of the years prior to the First World War are sketchy, and it is only since 1922 when the sport split into professional and amateur levels that complete records have been kept. The 1922 championships were also the first to award a single 'world championship' as opposed to titles in the individual dances.
