Jonathan Edward "Jon" Root (born July 10, 1964) is an American former volleyball player. He was a member of the United States men's national volleyball team that won the gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Root also helped the national team win the gold medal at the 1987 Pan American Games. College Root played college volleyball for Stanford University, where he was a three-time AVCA All-American. He graduated from Stanford in 1986. In 2002, Root was inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame.
