Jonathan Paiement
Jonathan Paiement (born March 7, 1985) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing in Austria with HC Innsbruck of the Austrian National League. Paiement was selected by the New York Rangers in the eighth round (247th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Amateur career Paiement played major junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Professional career Paiement's first professional season was played in the ECHL with the 2006–07 Texas Wildcatters. On February 19, 2009, Paiement and four other people were seriously injured when the bus carrying the Albany River Rats home from a game in Lowell, Massachusetts struck a guard rail and rolled on its side on the Massachusetts Turnpike. HC Innsbruck
HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck is an Austrian professional ice hockey team in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL). They play their home games at OlympiaWorld Innsbruck complex in Innsbruck. History The club was founded in 1994 as HC Innsbruck and in 1999 with the introduction of wealthy sponsor "Tyrolean Hydropower" were renamed to HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck. Since the 2000–01 season the Sharks were playing in the highest Austrian league and was the first Innsbruck team in the first division since the exit of EV Innsbruck upon completion of the 1992–93 season. Defenceman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). 2003–04 QMJHL Season
The 2003–04 QMJHL season was the 35th season in the history of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The league continued to expand to new eastern markets, with teams relocating to Maine and Prince Edward Island. Conferences were abandoned and teams were divided into three divisions by geography. Sixteen teams played 70 games each in the schedule. The Lewiston Maineiacs became the league's second American-based team in history after the Plattsburgh Pioneers, and first to survive a full season. The P.E.I. Rocket also became the first major junior hockey team based on Prince Edward Island. Rookie Sidney Crosby led the league in scoring as a 16-year-old, and won the Michel Brière Memorial Trophy as the MVP of the regular season. Casey Borer
Casey Patrick Borer (born July 28, 1985 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Carolina Hurricanes. Playing career Borer grew up in Brooklyn Park. As a junior, he was selected to play in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor before recruited to play collegiate hockey with St. Cloud State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Joe Jensen
Joseph Paul Jensen (born February 6, 1983, in Maple Grove, Minnesota) is a retired professional ice hockey center. He played six games with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League. Playing career Jensen was drafted in 2003 by the Pittsburgh Penguins while playing for St. Cloud State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. He joined the professional ranks in 2006, playing 26 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and 28 games with the Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Penguins. Jensen joined the Carolina Hurricanes in a trade on January 31, 2008, in exchange for David Gove to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Nicolas Blanchard (born May 31, 1987) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League with the Carolina Hurricanes. He was selected in the 6th round, 192nd overall, by the Hurricanes in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Blanchard played junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and was signed to a three-year entry level contract with the Hurricanes on March 4, 2007. Blanchard while on the Albany River Rats was involved in a bus crash which took him to hospital in a serious condition and injured five members of the team. 2006–07 ECHL Season
The 2006–07 ECHL season was the 19th season of the ECHL. The league had 25 teams for 2006–07. The Brabham Cup regular season champions were the Las Vegas Wranglers and the Kelly Cup playoff champions were the Idaho Steelheads. League changes Two teams returned to the ECHL after suspensions: the Texas Wildcatters and the Cincinnati Cyclones. The Wildcatters had to suspend operations for the 2005–06 season as a byproduct of damage to their home arena caused by Hurricane Rita.
