Jonas Forsslund
Jonas Forsslund (1754, Fors Parish, Jämtland - 9 March 1809, Stockholm) was a Swedish portrait painter and sculptor. Biography While working as a sales assistant in Uppsala, he spent his spare time creating pastel paintings. Some of these were brought to the attention of Duke (later King) Charles XIII of Sweden, Charles XIII during a visit to Uppsala University, and Forsslund came under his patronage. He became a student at the Royal Institute of Art, where his primary instructor was Gustaf Lundberg. In 1794, he was named a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and became a Professor in 1800. His best known works, almost all portraits, were those of King Gustav III of Sweden, Gustav III with Sophia Magdalena of Denmark and their son, King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden, Gustav IV Adolf with Queen Frederica of Baden, which is now at Gripsholm Castle, and one of a certain "Miss Piper", bearing flowers to her sister's grave. Jämtland
Jämtland () is a historical provinces of Sweden, province () in the centre of Sweden in northern Europe. It borders Härjedalen and Medelpad to the south, Ångermanland to the east, Lapland, Sweden, Lapland to the north and Trøndelag and Norway to the west. Jämtland covers an area of 34,009 square kilometres, 8.3% of Sweden's total area and is the second largest province in Sweden. It has a population of 115,331, the majority of whom live in , the area surrounding lake Storsjön. Carl Linnaeus
Carl Linnaeus (23 May 1707 – 10 January 1778), also known after ennoblement in 1761 as Carl von Linné,#Blunt, Blunt (2004), p. 171. was a Swedish biologist and physician who formalised binomial nomenclature, the modern system of naming organisms. Project Runeberg
Project Runeberg () is a digital cultural archive initiative that publishes free electronic versions of books significant to the culture and history of the Nordic countries. Patterned after Project Gutenberg, it was founded by Lars Aronsson and colleagues at Linköping University and began archiving Nordic-language literature in December 1992. As of 2015 it had accomplished digitization to provide graphical facsimiles of old works such as the ''Nordisk familjebok'', and had accomplished, in whole or in part, the text extractions and copyediting of these as well as esteemed Latin works and English translations from Nordic authors, and sheet music and other texts of cultural interest. The second, updated edition was published in 1906, under the editorship of Frithiof Heurlin, Viktor Millqvist, and Olof Rubenson. Nationalmuseum
Nationalmuseum is the List of national galleries, national gallery of fine arts of Sweden, located on the peninsula Blasieholmen in central Stockholm. The museum's operations stretch far beyond the borders of Blasieholmen, including the National Portrait Gallery (Sweden), National Portrait Gallery collection at Gripsholm Castle, Gripshom, the Gustavsberg porcelain museum, several castle collections and the Swedish Institute in Paris (Institut Tessin).
