Jon Owen Jones
Jonathan Owen Jones (born 19 April 1954) is a Welsh politician. He was the Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament for Cardiff Central from 1992 to 2005. He was then an unsuccessful candidate for Change UK in Wales at the 2019 European Parliament election. Early life Jon Owen Jones was born in Maerdy. He attended the Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen school on Glyndwr Avenue in Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd. He studied at the University of East Anglia, gaining a BSc in Ecology in 1975. In 1976 he went to University College of Wales, Cardiff, gaining a PGCE. Jones was a teacher before entering Parliament, teaching biology and science in comprehensive schools from 1977 to 1992. He was president of Caerphilly NUT in 1983, then Mid Glamorgan NUT in 1984. He was a councillor for the Adamsdown ward on Cardiff City Council from 1987 to 1992. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline (that members of the party vote according to the party platform rather than their constituents, conscience vote, individual conscience or donors) in a legislature. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They work to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being expelled from the party. The term is said to be taken from the "wikt:whipper-in, whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack. The term may more reasonably have been taken from the practice of "keeping discipline" in slaves by cracking a leather whip over their heads. Adamsdown (electoral Ward)
Adamsdown is an electoral ward in the south of Cardiff, capital city of Wales. It covers the community of Adamsdown. It was originally one of the ten wards created in 1890 for elections to Cardiff County Borough Council. Since 1996 it has been a ward to the current Cardiff Council unitary authority. Description The Adamsdown ward is divided from the city centre by the (previously Taff Vale) railway line and Queen Street station. Its longest south eastern border is defined by the mainline railway and its northern border by Newport Road (the A461). The National Union of Teachers (NUT; ) was a trade union for school teachers in Education in England, England, Education in Wales, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE/PGCertEd) is a one- or two-year higher education course in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and South Africa -where it can take up to three years- which provides training in order to allow graduates to become teachers within maintained schools. Rhydyfelin
Rhydyfelin () is a large village (originally known as Rhydfelen) and part of the community of Pontypridd Town, about to its south east of Pontypridd, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf. It is on the eastern bank of the River Taff, close to the A470, and historically was in the parish of Eglwysilan. History Rhydyfelin is also known as Rhydfelen, and means ''Mill ford'' in the Welsh language. It grew from a rural hamlet to a thriving village in the 19th century, due to its location on the Glamorganshire Canal which took iron from Merthyr Tydfil to the city of Cardiff, and linking to this Dr Richard Griffiths' canal and tramway which took coal from the Rhondda Valleys. Ysgol Garth Olwg (previously named Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen and Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg), English Garth Olwg School is a Welsh-medium comprehensive school in the village of Church Village near Pontypridd, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales.
