Joint Simulation Environment
The Joint Simulation Environment is a joint effort of the United States Air Force and Navy to produce flight simulators that can provide the most realistic combat training possible for air crew, as well as to perform operational testing and to develop tactics. The first JSE installation opened at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland in 2023; its second and third locations opened the following year at Edwards Air Force Base in California and Nellis AFB in Nevada. A fourth JSE installation is to open at Naval Air Station Fallon in Nevada in 2025, while a fifth is planned for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska. A smaller shipboard version is aboard the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln. Description In 2024, a Navy fact sheet described the Pax River installation as "a government owned and operated facility where warfighters can train in the highest fidelity simulation of the operational battlespace. JSE provides a physics-based computer environment capable of simulta ...

Helmet-mounted Display
A helmet-mounted display (HMD) is a headworn device that uses displays and optics to project imagery and/or symbology to the eyes. It provides visual information to the user where head protection is required – most notably in military aircraft. The display-optics assembly can be attached to a helmet or integrated into the design of the helmet. An HMD provides the pilot with situation awareness, an enhanced image of the scene, and in military applications cue weapons systems, to the direction their head is pointing. Applications which allow cuing of weapon systems are referred to as helmet-mounted sight and display (HMSD) or helmet-mounted sights (HMS). Requirement Aviation HMD designs serve these purposes: * using the head angle as a pointer to direct air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons seekers or other sensors (e.g., radar, FLIR) to a target by the pilot merely turning the helmet towards the target and operating a switch via HOTAS. In close combat, without HMDs, pilo ...

Flight Training
Flight training is a course of study used when learning to pilot an aircraft. The overall purpose of primary and intermediate flight training is the acquisition and honing of basic airmanship skills. Flight training can be conducted under a structured accredited syllabus with a flight instructor at a flight school or as private lessons with no syllabus with a flight instructor as long as all experience requirements for the desired pilot certificate/license are met. Typically flight training consists of a combination of two parts: * ''Flight Lessons'' given in the aircraft or in a certified Flight Training Device. * ''Ground School'' primarily given as a classroom lecture or lesson by a flight instructor where aeronautical theory is learned in preparation for the student's written, oral, and flight pilot certification/licensing examinations. Although there are various types of aircraft, many of the principles of piloting them have common techniques, especially those aircraft ...

Digital Combat Simulator
''Digital Combat Simulator'' (''DCS'') is a combat flight simulation game developed primarily by Eagle Dynamics and The Fighter Collection. Several labels are used when referring to the ''DCS'' line of simulation products: ''DCS World'', ''Modules'', and ''Campaigns''. ''DCS World'' is a free-to-play game that includes two free aircraft and two free maps. Modules are downloadable content that expand the game with add-on aircraft, maps, and other content. Campaigns are scripted sets of missions. Modules and campaigns are produced by Eagle Dynamics as well as third-parties. Gameplay ''DCS World'' is a Combat flight simulation game#Study, study sim in which players learn how to operate aircraft using realistic procedures. Aircraft are meticulously modeled from real-world data, including authentic flight models and subsystems and detailed cockpits with interactive buttons and switches. Digital manuals document the history, systems, and operation of each aircraft in extensive detai ...
