The Featherweight class in the boxing competition was the fourth-lowest weight class. Featherweights were limited to those boxers weighing a maximum of 57 kilograms (125.7 lbs). These were the first Olympic Games to be staged in Latin America, the first to be staged in a Hispanophone, Spanish-speaking country, and the first to be staged in the Global South.
