Johnedel Cardel
Johnedel Cardel (born June 6, 1970) is a Filipino former professional basketball player who played in the Philippine Basketball Association from 1993–1997. He is the current head coach of the Terrafirma Dyip. He also played in the Metropolitan Basketball Association. Collegiate / Amateur career Cardel first played for the Jose Rizal College Light Bombers in the NCAA during his high school days and was a reliever on the San Sebastian team in College. He became one of the more popular players playing for De La Salle Green Archers in the Ateneo-La Salle UAAP championship in 1988. Cardel was a member of the back-to-back UAAP champion De La Salle in 1989–1990. The Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), or Metroball, was a Professional sports, professional basketball league in the Philippines that ran from March 7, 1998, to July 26, 2002. History The MBA played its first game on March 7, 1998, at the Don Narciso Ramos Sports Complex in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Unlike the Philippine Basketball Association, in which teams represent companies, the MBA teams represented a particular city, province or island in the country. The league brought basketball closer to the people, and it raided the PBA for talent. The basketball tournament at the 1989 Southeast Asian Games took place from 21 to 25 August 1989. This edition of the tournament featured both men's and women's tournament. All matches took place at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur. The 1988 PABL season is the sixth season of the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL). Notable achievements The Swift-PABL selection won the 3rd Asian Interclub basketball tournament held in Jakarta, Indonesia from April 9–18. Among the teams who participated were Samsung Electronics of Korea, Pandan Jaya of Malaysia, Asaba Club of Indonesia, Liaoning of China, Armed Forces of Singapore, and Orthodox of Jordan. Swift-PABL, coached by Nat Canson, defeated title-favorite Liaoning of China, 84–69, in the finale to complete a seven-game sweep.
