Johnedel Cardel
Johnedel Cardel (born June 6, 1970) is a Filipino former professional basketball player who played in the Philippine Basketball Association from 1993 to 1997. He is the former head coach of the Terrafirma Dyip. He also played in the Metropolitan Basketball Association. Collegiate / amateur career Cardel first played for the Jose Rizal College Light Bombers in the NCAA during his high school days and was a reliever on the San Sebastian team in College. He became one of the more popular players playing for De La Salle Green Archers in the Ateneo-La Salle UAAP championship in 1988. Cardel was a member of the back-to-back UAAP champion De La Salle in 1989–1990. He also saw action for the national team, first in the ABC 17-and-under team in Doha, Qatar, then he played for the RP Youth team in the ABC Youth cagefest in Manila in January 1989 and finally with the men's national team for the SEA Games and ABC Championships that same year. Metropolitan Basketball Association
The Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), also shortened as Metroball, was a professional basketball league in the Philippines that ran for five seasons from 1998 until 2002. The MBA was established to rival the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The MBA contained between 8 and 15 teams which represented cities and provinces who played at home and away. Initially, the league was divided into two conferences: the Northern Conference for teams based in Luzon and the Southern Conference for teams based in Visayas and Mindanao. At the end of each season, the champions of each conference faced each other at the MBA National Finals to determine the league champion. The basketball tournament at the 1989 SEA Games took place from 21 to 25 August 1989. This edition of the tournament featured both men's and women's tournament. All matches took place at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur. The 1988 PABL season is the sixth season of the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL). Notable achievements The Swift-PABL selection won the 3rd Asian Interclub basketball tournament held in Jakarta, Indonesia from April 9–18. Among the teams who participated were Samsung Electronics of Korea, Pandan Jaya of Malaysia, Asaba Club of Indonesia, Liaoning of China, Armed Forces of Singapore, and Orthodox of Jordan.
