John Wesley Johnson Jr.
John Wesley Johnson Jr. (March 3, 1916 – February 9, 1944) was an American Negro league outfielder in the 1940s. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Johnson played for the Cleveland Buckeyes The Cleveland Buckeyes were a Negro league baseball team that played from 1942 to 1950 in the Negro American League. An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. The Cleveland Buckeyes were a Negro league baseball team that played from 1942 to 1950 in the Negro American League.
