John Wes Townley
John Wesley Townley (December 31, 1989 – October 2, 2021) was an American professional stock car racing driver. He competed in NASCAR's Xfinity and Truck Series from 2008 to 2016, winning a race in the latter in 2015. Townley's father Tony is a co-founder of the Zaxby's chain of chicken restaurants. Racing career Early career A Jeff Gordon fan in his youth, Townley began racing in karts in Georgia and the Carolinas. Prior to entering NASCAR, he drove in the American Speed Association. He began racing in the Nationwide Series in 2008 when he drove in three races for RAB Racing and had three DNFs. He also competed in 7 Craftsman Truck Series for Roush Racing with a best finish of 18th at both The Milwaukee Mile and Talladega Superspeedway. He returned to the Nationwide Series with RAB in 2009 and qualified for 26 races. He finished 16 races and finished 23rd in points. RAB Racing with Brack Maggard was an American professional stock car racing team that attempted races in the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, Craftsman Truck Series and the ARCA Menards Series. The team was co-owned by Robert A. Benton Sr. and his son Robby Benton, Robert Benton Jr. along with Georgia businessman Brack Maggard and ran from 2005 through 2015. The team won one race in the Xfinity Series, but never qualified for a Cup Series race in eight attempts. Kenny Wallace drove the most Xfinity races for the team with 57 starts, while Boris Said scored the team's only Xfinity win in 2010. The team shut it's doors in 2015. The American Speed Association (ASA) is a sanctioning body of motorsports in the United States formed in 1968. The Association was based in Pendleton, Indiana, Pendleton, Indiana, and later in Daytona Beach, Florida. The ASA sanctioned asphalt and dirt tracks in their ASA Member Track program along with racing series in the United States and Canada. The ASA currently sanctions the STARS National Tour, the ASA Midwest Tour, Midwest Tour, the Southern Super Series and all CRA Super Series, CRA sanctioned series. The ASA was most famous for a national touring series which began in 1973 but was discontinued in 2004 due to financial difficulties.
