John Welch (October 28, 1805 – August 5, 1891) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1851 to 1853. Biography Born near New Athens, Ohio, Welch received a liberal schooling and graduated from Franklin College. He moved to Athens County in 1828 and settled in Rome Township. He engaged in the milling business. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Athens, Ohio, in 1833. He served as prosecuting attorney of Athens County from 1841 to 1843, and as a member of the Ohio Senate from 1845 to 1847. Congress Welch was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress (March 4, 1851 – March 3, 1853). He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1852. Later career He served as delegate to the Whig National Convention in 1852. He resumed the practice of law. John Welch (architect)
John Welch (1825-1894) was a Scottish-born American architect of Brooklyn, New York, who designed numerous churches. He was one of the founders of American Institute of Architects. Life and career John Welch was born March 13, 1825, in Scotland, and was trained in architecture in Scotland and England."Obituary" in Architecture and Building' 21, no. 21 (November 24, 1894): 252. In 1849 he came to the United States, initially settling in Newark, New Jersey, where he opened his first office. Johnny Welch
Johnny Welch (December 2, 1906 – September 2, 1940) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played in the major leagues for nine years. Welch died from tuberculosis at age 33 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Career From 1926-1931, Welch played for the Chicago Cubs. He pitched in 14 games total for the Cubs. From 1932-1936, he played for the Boston Red Sox. He hit his first home run during his first season with them. He pitched in 142 games for four years. In late 1936, Welch was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He pitched in nine games with them before retiring. He previously served as assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
