Daddy Stovepipe
Johnny Watson (April 12, 1867 – November 1, 1963), known as Daddy Stovepipe, was an American blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player, best known for his recordings. Watson also recorded as Jimmy Watson, Sunny Jim and Rev. Alfred Pitts. He may have been the earliest-born blues performer to record. Many of his recordings were jug band duets with his wife, Sarah Watson, who was usually credited as Mississippi Sarah. Life Watson was born in Mobile, Alabama. His career began before 1900 in Mexico as a twelve-string guitarist in early mariachi bands. John Watson (Somerset Cricketer)
John Russell Watson (22 August 1910 – 7 March 1980) played first-class cricket for Somerset between 1933 and 1936. He was born at Caundle Purse, Sherborne, Dorset and died at Yeovil, Somerset. Watson was a right-handed batsman used mainly by Somerset in the lower order. In his first match, against Derbyshire at Ilkeston in May 1933, he came in for his second innings with the Somerset score on 63 for six wickets, Somerset and Derbyshire having been dismissed for 87 and 81 all out respectively in their first innings. Watson hit 56 and shared an eighth wicket partnership of 92 with Michael Bennett, though Derbyshire then won the match easily. Watson played seven further games for Somerset that season, but his highest score in these matches was only 33, and a few matches in each of the 1934, 1935 and 1936 seasons were no more successful. He has fought for the British lightweight title on two occasions, losing to Gavin Rees and Anthony Crolla. John Watson is a former Scottish lawn and indoor bowler and was born in Scotland on 22 November 1945. Watson came to prominence in 1975 after winning the Scottish Indoor Junior Singles title. Three years later he defeated Jim Blake in the Scottish National Singles final and then won his first international indoor cap in 1979. John Dawson Watson (20 May 1832 – 3 January 1892) was a British painter, watercolorist, and illustrator. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, Sedbergh School and Manchester School of Design. His son was the Impressionist painter Dawson Dawson-Watson. His daughter, Frances, married Myles Birkett Foster in 1864. Work Watson exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1853 to 1890, the British Institution, the Society of British Artists Suffolk Street, Royal Watercolour Society, and the Grosvenor Gallery. In the 1860s and 1870s he became nationally recognised for his genre scenes, often of historical themes and children. His pictures were usually small, painted on panel or board, and showed a Pre-Raphaelite feeling for colour and detail. John Watson was born in the 1970s in Blackpool, England. He is one of the few remaining comic book artists who specialises in painting in oils, and has done a number of notable cover runs for both Marvel and DC comics, most recently painting all the covers for the Marvel Apes series and for the second year running, the Triple-A Baseball covers. He has also illustrated a number of trading cards. Biography Watson studied Fine Art at the Cheltenham & Gloucester college. Sir John Watson Gordon (1788 – 1 June 1864) was a Scottish Portrait painting, portrait painter and president of the Royal Scottish Academy. Life and work Gordon was born in 1788, in Edinburgh, the eldest son of Captain Watson, R.A., a cadet of the family of Watson of Overmains, in the county of Berwick. He was educated specifically to prepare him for enrolling in the Royal Engineers. He entered as a student in the government school of design, under the management of the Board of Manufactures. he showed a natural aptitude for art, and his father was persuaded to allow him to adopt it as his profession. He worked initially painting house interiors, before turning to portraiture. Work in America In 1715 he emigrated to Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
