John Varley (8 June 1740 – 16 February 1809) was an England, English engineer. He was born in Heanor, Derbyshire, Heanor, Derbyshire, and was responsible for the construction of the Chesterfield Canal, Chesterfield and Erewash Canal, Erewash Canals. He died in 1809 and is buried at All Saints Church, Harthill, Derbyshire, Harthill, Derbyshire. Early life John Varley was born on 8 June 1740 to Francis Varley (1719–1789) and Rebekah Varley in Heanor, Derbyshire. He married Hannah Pattern (1752 – ) on 13 March 1770. John Varley (17 August 177817 November 1842) was an English Watercolor painting, watercolour Painting, painter and astrologer, and a close friend of William Blake. They collaborated in 1819–1820 on the book ''Visionary Heads'', written by Varley and illustrated by Blake. He was the elder brother of a family of artists: Cornelius Varley, William Fleetwood Varley, and Elizabeth, who married the painter William Mulready. John Herbert Varley (born August 9, 1947) is an American science fiction writer. Biography Varley was born in Austin, Texas. He grew up in Fort Worth, moved to Port Arthur in 1957, graduated from Nederland High School—all in Texas—and went to Michigan State University on a National Merit Scholarship. He started as a physics major, switched to English, then left school before his 20th birthday and arrived in Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco just in time for the " Summer of Love" in 1967. There he worked at various unskilled jobs, depended on St. Anthony's Mission for meals, and panhandled outside the Cala Market on Stanyan Street (since closed) before deciding that writing had to be a better way to make a living. He was serendipitously present at Woodstock in 1969 when his car ran out of gas a half-mile away. John Silvester Varley (born 1 April 1956) is an English banker who was the group chief executive of Barclays from 2004 to 2011. Early life John Silvester Varley was born in Warwick. His father, Philip, was a solicitor in Coventry. Varley was educated at the Catholic Downside School at Stratton-on-the-Fosse south of Bath, becoming head librarian, then at Oriel College, Oxford ( MA History), and London's College of Law.
