John Tong Hon
John Tong Hon (, born 31 July 1939) is a prelate of the Catholic Church from Hong Kong. A cardinal since 2012, he was auxiliary bishop of Hong Kong from 1996 to 2008, then coadjutor bishop of the diocese for a year, and Bishop of Hong Kong from 2009 to 2017. In January 2019, he became the apostolic administrator of the diocese, in a caretaker role, after the death of his successor, Michael Yeung. Biography Early years Tong was born on 31 July 1939 at 8 Staunton Street in Central, Hong Kong. In his youth, Tong Hon spent ten years living in Hwa County (Fa-yuen, Fa-yun; now Huadu), Guangdong, before returning to Hong Kong. His father died in China in 1952, at the age of 42. A cardinal is a senior member of the clergy of the Catholic Church. Joseph Ha
Joseph Ha Chi-shing, O.F.M. (, born 4 March 1959), is a Roman Catholic bishop and currently the auxiliary bishop of Hong Kong. Biography Ha was born in Hong Kong, and started learning Catholic catechism and was then baptised during his study in secondary school. After his graduation, he worked in the field of banking before finding his vocational calling after a pilgrimage to a Marian shrine. He joined the Order of Friars Minor in 1984, and received basic religious formation in Taiwan. He was ordained as a priest on 9 September 1990 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Hong Kong, from the hands of Cardinal John Baptist Wu, the Bishop of Hong Kong at the time. Stephen Lee Bun-sang (born 10 November 1956, in Hong Kong; in ) is a Hongkonger Catholic prelate who has served as Bishop of Macau since 2016. Lee entered the priesthood in 1988 and became Auxiliary Bishop of Hong Kong in 2014. He is a numerary of Opus Dei. Early life Lee was born in and raised in Hong Kong. He was baptized as Roman Catholic on 24 July 1976. He received his Bachelor in Architectural Studies in England. Lee went back to Hong Kong to start up his profession as architect. Cathedral Of The Immaculate Conception (Hong Kong)
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception () is a late 19th-century English Gothic revival church that serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. It is located in the Mid-Levels area of the city at 16 Caine Road. Groundbreaking and construction of the cathedral began in 1883 after the previous cathedral, on Wellington Street, was destroyed by fire. Built from brick and stone, the new cathedral was designed by the London-based architectural firm Crawley and Company. The church opened on 7 December 1888, the day before the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and was consecrated in 1938. Three years later, it was damaged during the Battle of Hong Kong, but remained untouched throughout the subsequent Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. Charles Asa Schleck, CSC (July 5, 1925 – July 12, 2011) was a Catholic prelate, who served as undersecretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies (from 1995 to 2001).
